I would recommend staying in either Riva del Garda or Torbole as a good base from which to explore. If you are a keen cyclist or walker, then there is more than just the watersports to enjoy and if you just want to sit back and put your feet up... that would work too - just pick a warmer time of year as it would be a bit chilly sitting around in much less than a t.shirt at this time of year.

Tridentum- hidden city under Trento

We walked on the main street amongst the cart ruts, saw a completely recognisable toilet, looked at mosaics and the staff even showed us where a cat had walked on drying cement. Even the sewerage systems could be seen.
