Historical Traveler Reviews of Hotel Belvedere Bellagio

Beautiful location, but worth the money?

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I stayed here in late June for two nights. Our first impression of the hotel came when we sat on the patio to drink some wine while our room was being readied. With the pink table cloths, brass window decorations, outdated decorating, tuxedoed waiter, and tour bus that was parked outside, we felt like we were in a Hyatt in Florida. The average age of the guests here was at least 55.

Our room was great -- it had its own private lawn with outstanding views. The bathroom was huge, but only had a tub -- no shower. And, old plumbing pipes and fixtures were left in the wall from a previous remodel. We came back one night to find a gigantic black spider crawling above our bed on the 12-14 ft. ceiling. Ugh.

The pool is nice, situated below the hotel's main floor between the lake and the hotel. We spent a full day by the pool and were very comfortable.

The walk to Bellagio's shopping and restaurant area is less than five minutes.

Overall, we felt like we had overpaid for our stay at this aging, big hotel. Bellagio wasn't our cup of tea, either. It just didn't feel like Italy -- more like any tourist trap of a water town in Anytown, America.

Wonderful Hotel

I chose The Belvedere after reading reviews on this web sight and was even more impressed after experiencing the hotel. We had a terrace with the most spectacular view I have ever seen. The room was small but very tastefully decorated. The Belvedere has the perfect location, just outside the main town area. It's a easy walk and in a very quiet location. Perfect!

Rooms with sensational views

This is a very aptly named hotel. We stayed here for two nights in late June 2004 in a two room suite with our daughters and found the place to be ideal in all respects. Our room overlooked the lake and had the most incredible scenery I've ever seen. The girls room overlooking the road was very nice too, but you should ask for a lake view.

The restaurant was excellent and the staff very attentive. The location was a short walk to town giving the hotel much larger grounds than surrounding propeties. The pool was very nice. The hotel arranged a trip for us by boat to Villa Balbianello which my family thought was a special highlight of our Italia vacation.

On any vacation including northern italy, we would recommend flying into Milano and taking the short drive to Hotel Belvedere to unwind before taking in the heavy doses of culture in Venice, Florence, and Rome.

Excellent hotels and views - beware of air conditioning in the old wing

We just stayed at The Belvedere hotel in Bellagio, the hotel staff and location was excellent. It's located 5 minutes from the town and you can easily walk there both ways. It has a lot of charm and the people really like the visitors.

The breakfast was great, the oom was okay. We were in a room not in the main tower that I believe does not have the updated air conditioning that the rooms in the new hotel does.

I discovered this by asking other guests, they told me that the tower rooms have air conditioning with a digital sensor. Thought you should know.

Definitely worth the money

The views form this hotel are amongst the best that I have seen. The accomodations were excellent as well as the hotel restaurant. The service and the views at the restaurant were great, so you have to try it at least once. There are other restaurants in town worth exploring. The reasons this hotel doesn't get an excellent rating from me, is that the location is just outside the downtown area. Like most northern Italian towns there isn't many flat areas. The walk to town is a piece of cake (downhill). The walk can be tough for some on the way back. The other reason is give me a shower I can move in not a tub, but this is Italy.

Surpassed expectations

We had expected good views and a comfortable place, but this was beyond expectations. Gorgeous setting. Some rooms have balconies, others have grassy patios (with lounge chairs). Very comfortable. The meals were excellent. The location was better than in the center of town, quiet and just a short walk to shopping. Be sure to request a lake view, rather than the "garden" view for quiet...a busy road goes by the hotel. Will certainly return!

Wonderful

Found this on the net, really beautiful old hotel, attentive staff, best hotel within its price range in its fantastic location. One of The Guardian Top 50 Hotels in the world. If you can afford it have a superior room, good size, opens onto huge terrace overlooking the lake.

Really stylish, clean and all attention to detail is here. Would go again (have been to lakes 12 times and think its a gem of a hotel)

Great memories!

I am so glad to see these other excellent reviews for the Hotel Belvedere. I stayed there in May 2000 and loved it. They had the most phenomenal breakfast. Dinner was great, too! And the view was incredible.

Breathtaking Views!

My wife and I have been to beautiful Bellagio three times now and are going back in 2004. It is by far our favorite place in Europe. We have always stayed at the Belvedere and would highly recommend it to anyone.

It's a charming place operated by a very friendly staff. The lake views are incredible! We are always in awe of the beauty that surrounds us there. Another thing we love is the location, it is a lovely, short walk from the center of the village, so it is very quiet. They serve a lovely breakfast and the lunch and dinners are delicious. If you are going to Bellagio, may I suggest you reward yourself with a stay at the Belvedere!

Incredible Stay!

We stayed at the Belvedere in September, 2003. What an incredible view!

We stayed on the 3rd floor w/ a shared terrace and were awed by the experience!! The staff is very helpful and friendly and made us fell welcome.

The location is great, short walk to town. The restaraunt was excellent. We highly recommend the hotel Belvedere and look forward to a return stay soon.
