... beach to have a quick swim, but when we got close to the water it was filthy. Very brown and quite a bit of rubbish in it. There were a few locals swimming, but we decided to give it a miss. ... 2 or 3 old cars set up with tables and candles inside in case you want to dine in an old Vauxhall or something. Maybe eating in cars is more novel in a town without drive-throughs! Woke to torrential rain, which luckily cleared. Strolled the small historic town with winding, cobbled streets. Saw the Puerta de Campo (city gates), Calle de Los Suspiros, lighthouse and old port. Little else to do with average weather and ghost-like time of year. Had lunch and got bus to Montevideo, which had wifi the whole way! Arrived in Montevideo, much larger city than anticipated. ... an hour boat ride from Buenos Aires and the town is known for its historic quarters. We met the program directors in Uruguay and went to the information center for a short history of Colonia. Everything we did that day was in Spanish…hence, being on a field trip with my Spanish class.
