... a great chat with two Dutch climbers - my roommates - who have explained my route in great detail and given me some very useful tips, including making it a three-day journey instead of the two I had planned (yet more Chemin angels?). Well, would you believe it, I'm here in Montreux in the middle of the annual jazz festival. The place is full of stages, chill areas and stalls selling all sorts of merchandise. I'm on the outskirts of town and I'm still debating to make the 40 minute round trip to take in some of the free acts. I think I'll 'Take 5' and then decide.

It is my second day in Switzerland, but I feel I still have to bring closure on my month walking through France. I won't detain you long.

... lake, we passed a train line where there were workmen replacing the sleepers. We've never seen how this is done before, and were amazed to see a machine lift up the rails so the sleepers could automatically be put underneath - we didn't know train tracks could bend so much!
