... played cards on a pillow balanced between me as Sophie's knees. We arrived in Ventimiglia, the last Italian town before the French border and the main interchange for crossing over. We couldn't buy a ticket to Nice from the machines and there was a huge line for tickets, so we ended up missing the first train to Nice, although Michael got on it (see you in Barcelona) so he was sure to not miss his connection to Marseilles. We ended up getting a train half an hour later, after ...

This beautiful morning we caught the TER train to Monaco-Monte Carlo. It was a lovely train trip along the edge of the Mediterranean. We arrived and were surrounded by grandstands all set up for the Monaco Grand Prix which is on in about a month. The concierge dressed in their top hats to park the cars, with a constant smile on their face. When your eyes ...

... views. We reached the beach at Nice at the far end and waited for the whole group to assemble before cycling the 5 miles along the Promenade de Anglais to the finish point right outside our hotel. So there it is, 1000 miles from London to Nice. The only mechanical failure was Bryan's blow out on day four. Both bikes in need of a good service but impeccably reliable. ... of the border between Italy and France. The day was HOT… HOT …and after walking the Esplanade along the ocean , with many folk already sunbathing an swimming on its stony beach , we came to the ‘little white train’…These are very reasonable in price, and give a great overview quickly of an area. SO on it we jumped - travelling to the Italian border and back up through the medieval quarter… still very populated, and the little train only ...
