Lunch at the Guggenhiem, Dinner in S. Sebastian

Tom and Sue took the day to zip to Bilbao (1:45 south of Biarritz) to see the famous Guggenhiem Museum. Wow, what a building!! The exhibits pale in comparison, but still we enjoyed a solid 4 hours at the museum. Afterwards, we drove back to San Sebastian where Sue introduced me to Alona Berri, the ...

Take a guess what we did...

I don't really need to tell you what we did do I? Take one part playground, one part beach, and one part sunset and you have a Kramer day in Biarritz.

Tapas and Waves

San Sebastian is a wicked old town, literally full of tapas restaurants, bars and little shops. Our hostel was right in the middle of it all, it was ridiculously loud at night, but nothing wine and ear plugs can't handle. They have all these tapas laid out on the bars and you pick the ones that look good.... sometimes ...

A short walk

Our first day was just a short walk from Roncesvalles to Viscarret (about 15km) it was too late and we called the next village (Zubiri) but was full, so we stopped in that village, the drawback was the price of the hostel, cuz in that village there's no refuge, but me and my mum could sleep in a great room with our bath, the first and last pilgrimage luxury.

Our first impression: this is pretty easy! we don't feel tired, so tomorrow we should walk much more!

Here we go!

We arrived to Roncesvalles from Madrid at 1pm so we decided to start our trip that afternoon.
After take our first pictures we asked the people from the village we began our trip, we felt very strong as if we were going to eat the world!!!

Roncesvalles was amazing, our first impression of the Camino couldn't be greater, the refuge is like a great castle, there we get our first stamp!!!

The Camino has started! Buen Camino!

Onwards to Spain

... bridge about 3kms in. My poncho was on and the rain was as cold as I can recall. I walked via some green fields and lovely countryside away from the road and passed my first sheep. The 3 ewes looked at me as if I was the crazy one, to which I wholeheartedly agreed and I struggled past them until another 5kms in I reached the border of Spain. In terms of passport control...... I don´t think I saw anyone or any sign that there had ever been ...

A foodie pilgrimage

... moved on to an outdoor table, a selection of queso and jamon washed down with local red, and waited for the fireworks to start. We loved Spain. The land is beautiful, at times wild, at times tamed and littered with the history of millennia. In the south you feel the influence of the Moors, in the airy, quirky, sometimes fantastical architecture, in the late night, exuberant, easy community, in the light touch to food and life. In the north it's the influence of the French and the ...
