We finally made it to Bled from Bratislava after taking a taxi, 3 trains, and 2 buses- all in all, 7 hour day of travel. We got set up by a friend of Chris' that knew some of the locals from a previous trip and our apartment was awesome! We dropped our things off and headed straight down to the lake. ... picturesque. Turquoise water surrounded by pine trees, with an island at one end with a small church, a castle on a bluff at the other end with another church with a spire. All ringed by Alps some of which still have remnants of snow. It really is a picture postcard, and the hotel has some stunning viewpoints, including from the 5th floor swimming pool, if only I had remembered our togs!
