We were planning to go to Liechtenstein but thought we may as well as it was sort of on our way. It's the worlds 6 smallest country so it would have been rude not to go..haha.
We didn't drive to the main town but to another.. where really there wasn't anything. I did get a photo with the tourist sign though. Had to somehow prove I'd been there!
Obersaxen, Switzerland acgwhale... familiar green Series Land Rover travelling in the opposite direction. It was Gaz and Charlotte in the Lean Green Recycled macnine!! Of course we stopped and turned round, and they did the same.
We were wondering why on earth they were on that road, but we soon found out they were on the way back towards Calais. The night before, things had proved too much for their motor, and they had problems ...
... found a spot. Touris tat and postcards were the first stop. Luckily the little kiosk took Euros - we hadn't thought of that! But he didn't sell stamps, and directed us towards the post office. They took Euro notes, but gave change in Swiss francs, which seemed a bit odd. Anyway, no choice, so the cards got posted. At ast we were back on track.
The way back to the car park ...
Our third stop of the day was our first in Austria. Now I was entering undiscovered lands! Feldkirch is right on the Switzerland border. The old town centre is surrounded by towers, and a castle sits on a hill above.
We explored Feldkirch and a few of its towers. The old town is quite charming with its colorful buildings, trickling fountains, and small shops. When we tried to ...
... the trail through the forested area, up switchbacks with short stops at lookouts in small clearings to the city below. It didn't take long to reach the castle. It is closed to the public but sits right next to a public road so I walked along the road to get a good look, then continued along the road up a hill a bit further so I could get a nice view.
I navigated my way back down to the city below and checked out some of the shops ...
I perused the various pots in the shed. They were mostly the same. Mostly Terracotta. Now I have walked from the potting shed to the orchard. There are no trees here because they were all uprouted last week. There are many holes where trees used to be. Soon this area will be a majestic royal Orchid nursery. I am digging a hole for a new statue to be placed in. It is a wide hole. It will be filled with concrete.
Royal grounds of my castle, Liechtenstein heinz_schofeld... that really got to me. But, we made it down, and I decided that I would do kid-duty the rest of the day at the restaurant at the top in the village of Weissenberge. So I got back on the gondola for the ride back up with everyone else. A&B took every chance they could to go again and again. K did the loop 10 times! He really loved it! Later in the day we stopped at a small hill where the kids (and I) could sled ...
Matt, Switzerland baken5... What a view! I wish I could afford to live here. As it is, I’m sure the only reason we came is because it’s the 'off’ season.
Switzerland is one of the most expensive countries in Europe, so you know just how expensive it must be to live in St. Moritz. We took a little stroll through town before we had lunch and after lunch we did a bit more sightseeing, while the Others (Shirley & company) went shopping. As in Lucerne, you find a new and big (or ...
... go all out for desserts, and it shows…but they also walk a lot, so they can eat like this. When we returned from dinner, it was quite late and we have an early start on Monday... we are off for Lucerne. (Before I forget, the music during dinner was absolutely wonderful. Two young fellows were playing local Swiss mountain music on accordions and my feet just couldn’t stay still. Maggie was the only other one of Our Group who went with us.) We had a great time.
