Once we arrived at the Dancing Bear Sanctuary, we met one of the keepers, Vil. She explained that the bears had all been rescued from various places around the country and there were, supposedly, none left performing in Bulgaria. The original owners would somehow get them as one year olds, put their paws on hot plates and play the violin. Once they stopped the music, they would remove the hot plates. ...

So the 13 of us hunkered down for an hour and swapped stories of Game of Thrones and drank some local brewskis. We had a couple of the locals stop by and yell some things in Bulgarian at us. Left Sofia this morning to visit the Rila Monastery - built in the 10th century. Spent about 2 hours wandering around the grounds before leaving for our homestay in a nearby village. Unlike our other stays which were in bed and breakfast places, we are actually sharing a house with the family this time - we have the study, and apparently the wi-fi router in our room :) Took a walk through the village ending up near some tomato ...
