... would entail completely replacing the grip shifts on both handlebars. Instead, I just covered the break with duct tape hoping that it would hold together. It did, but only for so long.

After some finking, the deralier would still shift between 2nd and 3rd, and I was able to manage it without too much grinding. Of course, the first obstacle was a rather large hill. Without a low gear, I had to walk it ...
Tholo, Greece 2totango... give an idea of scale. Six rows by thirteen of 20m+ towers. If only the gold and silver statue of Zeus still remained…

Also, there was the temple of Hera where the disk of the Sacred Truce was held. Every 4 years the games were held, all hostilities between regions were to cease. Outside Hera’s temple was the place where the Olympic torch was (is) lit. Still today the ...
Olympia, Peloponnese, Greece 2totango... a train to Athens and catch a plane home. But then what? Drop into a different pit of dispair longing for lost opportunities and dreams just out of reach? Oh why won’t the sun just shine a bit?

The rain lightened to a drizzle so we ventured out to see the sights. But they decided to close early so we couldn’t. Wanted to go to the store and buy some Ouzo to drown our sorrows ...
Olympia, Peloponnese, Greece 2totango... tape again!

Hopefully Brian’s starting to learn that everything doesn’t need to be in ‘brand new’ condition to be functional. But I love him for caring so much. I go too much the other way. I would rather things be rickety and worn than new. There’s quite a few things on my bike being held together with duct tape which are asking for ...
Palouki, Greece 2totangoWe arrived at Olympia on a gorgeous day to see the site of the first ancient Olympics, the site where the Olympic torch still begins its journey every four years. We went to the track where the footraces were held. Indy showed us how the sprinters would pose as they lined up on the track, and then all the young men in the program raced while the young women took bets on the winner. Jane the track athlete, who runs every morning with his ...
Olympia, Peloponnese, Greece tiara316... Age site excavated by Schliemann in the 1800s. He was sure he was digging up the graves of the heroes of the Trojan War and their ancestors. In fact, he was digging up materials several centuries earlier than the Iliad, but the association remains. It is likely the imperfectly remembered deeds of these Mikines and their era that the Iliad tells. Homer knew, at least, that the warriors used only bronze weapons. One of the best-known features of this site is the Lion Gate ...
Olympia, Peloponnese, Greece melissagquest... with a particularly excellent guide. They probably paid hundreds of dollars for this excursion! Because of the destruction of the site by several earthquakes, there is not much left in the way of buildings besides foundations, steps and columns but these are impressive and are in a beautiful setting near the Kladeos River . The reason there is anything left at all is because the flooding of the river buried it ...
Olympia, Greece mmbcross... How you put a war on hold, I don't know, but it certainly sounds civilized to me! It is interesting to note that the games were held only every 4 years as they are today, and no one actually lived in the Olympic Village full time other than the Priest's and Priestess'. Every one else had to stay in hotels, or in encampments outside the village. This all went on until Emperor Theodosius banned the games in 426 AD. With the rise of Christianity ...
Olympia, Peloponnese, Greece ohiolair... I've seen bad people, murderors, and I can understand how their life events led them to do what they did, and they're not that different from me. They were lost, as we all are. They certainly lacked love, laughter, nature, friendship, or health, and they became selfish, like most or all of us. There's simply one soul, always will be, and always has been. We're all the same. - I think. JUSTIN: THANKS. - peace. Much thanks to Dimitrios & Leonidas for the place to stay ... warm!
