A colonial village, Caracas and a socialist city

A travel blog entry by sueandludi

... Chavez. So we back-tracked and took a tip from the guidebook to go by bus up to the old colonial village of El Hatillo.

Transport is working normally, including the big clean metro free all this week. El Hatillo is up on a hilldside but now Caracas suburbs have entirely enclosed it, below, to the sides and above. It´s a pretty colonial-style setup with more four-wheel drives than we´ve seen elsewhere. There´s a huge Aladdin`s cave of a gift shop with things we might have ...

Who's says Caracas is dangerous???

A travel blog entry by cj1s17

... of my travel schedule, but I'm keeping up with the workout regime anyway. The rest of my Sunday was spent catching up on work, and reading.

Overall, it was a good weekend, and I didn't feel unsafe at all. We expected to have our bags thoroughly checked, much like the road block inspections we had faced throughout ...

Our travels to Macuto were a breeze. We took a taxi to the bus station in Panama and then the public bus to the airport. Kinda wish someone had told us that the bus ran right by our hostel though, oh well. Our flight into Venezuela was really late and we felt terrible because we had arranged a pickup. None the less our guy was ready and waiting for us when we arrived. Getting out of that airport took forever. The customs officials scan every piece of luggage as you´re trying to ...

Whistlestop tour & Black Market activity

A travel blog entry by simondee

Day 2:

We arrived in Caracas after a long, hot and uncomfortable flight to a rather daunting experience where we were descended upon by airport officials (rumoured to be corrupt). Thankfully we quickly moved through the airport and located our hotel shuttle bus - completely unscathed and contrary to the rumours found the officials to be extremely kind and helpful.

Day 3:

We swiftly left Caracas upon ...
