O.k. perhaps I best explain...

Coming up for air here after many adventures all across Morocco. Am presently in Essaouira - a most lovely seaside town along the Atlantic coast, about 3 hrs. southwest of Marrakech.

The techno explaination:

I arrived yesterday (well actually "today" as it's now Oct. 4, but I shall leave the date above as that's when I first arrived) and whilst ...

Horse riding, fish market and a punch up

... are followed by a baby donkey, apparently his mum died 6 months ago and he doesn’t seem to realise he is a donkey, he thinks he is a horse and keeps trying to get milk from the horses, which would be a miracle if he actually got any as all the horses are male!!!!

This is actually the start of something for me and John, it has sparked an interest in both of us – we are going to arrange some lessons when we get home. Next time I want to be able to just get on ...

Overflowing with mint tea!

... shelf – no problem he says as we try and get in the back and end up leaning forward with luggage poking in our backs and necks!!! It was kinda funny.

We get dropped at the station and board the bus for Essouria. There’s not much to say about the journey really, one straight road took us there from Marrakech and we actually couldn’t see anything much through the windows – it was quite a bumpy journey though, that much I can say ...

Seventh Day - Essaouira trip

At 7 A.M. we already left the hotel to move north to the ancient port town Essaouira. It was a Pirate port and has a lot of history to tell and to show us.

The trip was much more dangerously now. The Serpentine is so scary, and the driver of the bus drives like a mad man, but of course, he's just very experienced, but sitting near the window made some people almost sick. The road took ...

Stepping back in time

Breakfast was surprisingly wonderful in my little hotel along the road, I got a very nice French Crepe, a thin crispy pancake, and a fruit salad. The bus to my next destination Essaouira left at 8 am but I didn't want to spoil the day with the sound of an alarm clock. I was sure there would be some other possibility to get there, and I was right. It was the time of some mutton-eating festival in ...

Back to Essouira

... that today none of the other two options presented themselves as I simply, peacefully and humbly withdraw my interest and applogized to the owner for the inconvenience, got my money back and left without harmed feelings on either side. It is nice to be grateful (rather than regretful) by the end of a day. I hope I'll have many more day endings like this. By the way, I found the other riad (which even includes breakfast) in less than a minute. Could not have been easier!

Essaouira, Morocco, October 10 - 11, 2007

... in Essaouira and a morning hanging out on the beach. Although Essaouira is pretty, has a good variety of boutiques, and is pleasant to walk around, besides the fishing port there's little to see or do besides eating seafood. I was walking through the medina's busy street one evening just as the dusk prayer call began to take place. Suddenly everyone was running through the streets at a speed that would make you think it an air raid siren rather than ...

CHAPTER 5 - PARIS-DAKAR? YOU MUST BE ENGLISH!

... now no longer hanging on the hollow promises of "There's no more sand riding today" from our guides. An Arab telling you there's no more sand in the Sahara today??? My ******** sensors have been tripped, but the sand no longer sets off the fear alarm. The riding and landscape today has been surprisingly diverse - gravel tracks, deep river beds, fine red clay, dried up salt lakes and endless miles of sand. We cross into No Mans Land between Morocco and Algeria, then check in at a ...

More mint tea and medinas

... the places we are heading for as they have to travel faster, so they were able to give some advice. We walked around the port area with them, then explored the ramparts on our way back through the medina. We found a decent local restaurant for a lunch of tajine and a pot of mint tea. We will go back there tonight for the chicken and olives dish that is already cooking. The lady who does the cooking is very friendly and welcomed us into the ...
