... wine, sun, wine, shopping, gelato, spritz (look it up - it's tasty), and finally more wine on the waterfront as I watched the sun set. Today wasn't a very cultural day, but it was damn fine. Tomorrow I am getting up early to catch a train to Padua for the day, where I have a viewing reserved of the Scrovegni Chapel (only 25 people are let in at a time and I had to reserve a few days ago to even get a spot). See, my shallowness does have ...

We enjoyed a water taxi ride from our hotel back door, though the canal system to the Cruise Terminal in order to board the Nieuw Amsterdam at 2pm and then set sail at 4pm, 11 July 2014 towards Katakolon, Greece (which is close to the Ancient city of Olympia).

Long rods of steel run front to back through some of them to maintain stability, with bolts on the front and back of the buildings like we have seen in Charleston, SC. In that town, the bolts were added to 'tighten up' houses weakened by a huge earthquake. Here ...

... a vaporetto to your destination. However, to do this we have to first cross the new fourth bridge to cross the Grand Canal. 'Designed' by Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava, it fails to meet the obvious need of the traveller laden with a heavy suitcase. No ramps. Interesting notion, when you remember that the bridge is the only connection between the station of Santa Lucia and the bus station! Hopping on the vaporetto is always fun, but today we were just on ...
