... France and the Czech Republic, possibly even Poland as well. It seems to be a favourite driving route, north of the Alps, which is probably why we soon joined the traffic jam. In order to escape it, Steffie's fancy new car calculated a new route through some tiny Bavarian towns, which were quite picturesque and idyllic with rows of freshly mown grass and the mountains in the background.

We make a stop in Bad Toelz on the way to shop for a takeaway lunch and have an excellent coffee and cake. The boat ride is only 15 minutes then we get a horse and carriage to the castle itself. This castle was built as a ...

Today was all about the journey. We set off from Pinswang, Austria at about 9:30 AM. 90 minutes later, we made a brief stop in Bad Tolz to take a couple of pictures...what a cute town!

About an hour later we rambled into Prien am Chiemsee, where the last of Ludwig's castles can be reached by boat. Schloss Herrenchiemsee was beautiful, if a bit remote. Only about a third of the palace is complete but cost ...
