Who could pass up a hearty breakfast at a real Irish pub called Dunnes? We feasted on perfect scrambled eggs, toast and bacon with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice on the side. It was exactly what we had been craving since leaving the uk- Good bacon and toast equals Heaven! Dunnes was in the gothic quarter about a 20 minute walk from the …
Finally, we arrived at Barcelona airport around 8:35AM. The weather is nice (no rain yet!). We stopped at the restroom on the way to the immigratio. Well, it was a mistake because the line was longer. There were only four lanes open for 600 + passengers. It took us almost an hour to get through the line. However the process was fast, the officer …
I know its been such a long time since I've made an entry. My laptop is malfunctioning and I can't get pictures off my camera and online for a while. We also just has midterms and papers for Drawing and Art History so the last couple of weeks were super hectic. Once I get back to Florence, I will post about the previous 2 weeks: El Calcio Storico …
The day started out really great with us all sleeping in and enjoying a wonderful breakfast buffet.
The buffet had all manner of food, sausages, sausage, cheeses, rolls, doughnuts, scrambled eggs. yogurt, mushrooms, etc. etc. We then left to go to the subway stop of Catalunya which is the beginning of both lines of the tourist bus. Today we …
We had a very smooth exit from the ship, and we were making our way to the Barcelona Universal Hotel by 8:30. Of course our check in wasn't until 3 PM so we stowed our luggage and off we went. We purchased two day tickets, on the tourist bus of Barcelona, for 27 euro each. The bus had two lines, a blue and an orange, that …

Historical Traveler Reviews Barcelona Universal Hotel
Great Hotel,Great location!!!
Hotel was great, staff were superb, rooms were moderm, extremely clean and very comfortable, the breakfast was always fresh with plenty of choice.Hotel is well located, there is a metro station outside and plenty of bars and restaurants nearby.Port Vell(harbour) is in easy walking distance as is La Ramblas.Very highly recommended!!!!!
Did I stay at the same hotel as everyone else?
This hotel was mediocre. The location was OK - nothing too special and our rate of 99 EUR without breakfast did not seem that great. The rooms are functional and the room we stayed in facing a courtyard was quiet to outside noise. The only noise we heard was a 4 am bachelorette party making its way back to the hotel. The pool looks like a large hot tub and the view from the hotel roof is mainly of ugly rooftops in the nearby district.
Great City Great Hotel
The hotel room was large and staff were friendly and even booked train tickets for us! The location is great, 5 mins away from La Ramblas and the hotel resturant was excellent. The only reason it has 4 stars is our room had no view. None the less, highly recommended and would stay again.
Excellent except for one thing
Hotel was well situated rooms clean and modern we even stayed in the suites on one occasion (sheer luxury) jacuzzi lounge and dining area.
Hotel near to metro, all the sights and the sea front however I could not stomach the breakfst the boiled eggs were always raw with water seeping from them. Other than that splendid.
great hotel. pool was excellent. panoramic views of the city whilst having a swim. room was spacious and very good. location is good, the side road to la rambla should be avoided at night, a few unsavouries!!!
but the metro is only two stops and your there. will definately go back to this hotel in the future.
New and comfortable
This is a new hotel right above the Metro station - very convenient.
Just 2-3 stops from Rambla (the busiest street). The room is spacious and new with a comfortable bed, a big wardrobe, slippers. The swimming pool is very small but too cold to swim anyway. The breakfast is also good and replenish frequently.
The guard is cool but helpful. I also booked the Flamingo show from the reception counter at a cost of ~58 Euro per person. The table location for dinner is great and the seat for the show is just the best (at the middle of the 1st row!).
Really enjoy staying here.
Note : The metro exit to the hotel close at 10PM, you have to use the exit at the other end and walk back (1 block) after that time.
We stayed here from the 7th to the 10th November 2003 and cannot fault the hotel.
The staff are courteous and efficient and the room was excellent. The maids did an excellent job cleaning the room everyday and the breakfast was lovely.
It is a well-positioned hotel within walking distance of Las Ramblas and the port and there is a Metro station (Paral.lel) right outside from which the whole of Barcelona can be reached and from which the Funicular to Montjuic can be caught. We could see the cable cars on Montjuic from our room which overlooked Ave. Paral.lel.
Loved Hotel Universal in Barcelona!!!
This hotel was great. The staff is superb. Their recommendations were right on. They also have free internet access (computer stations) on one of the top floors, ask the front desk. Also, the hotel seems very newly built. When I return to Barcelona, I will be staying at the Universal.
The Hotel was in a good spot to visit places of interest in Barcelona.
The room was above what we expected only down side was while we were there a BIG group of Americans arrived and the Breakfast was unable to cpoe with them plus the one off guests.
