Barcelona - what a city!
Kaylyn and I caught a flight from Paris to Barcelona on Saturday. Nothing ever seems to happen without a hitch as we were supposed to drop our rental car off at the train station info desk, but of course they were closed (opened at 8 - our train was at 7)that morning and there was no Avis dropbox in sight. We parked the car and left the keys with a …
Farewell Barcolona - we will miss you!
For our last day in Barcelona, Kaylyn and I set out on a tour of all things Gaudi. The day before we booked a tour of the Palau Musica Catalana. This has to be one of our favorite buildings that we have visited. It was nice to see it during the day and to have the guide explain how everything came to be. The stained glass inverted bell in the roof …
The most amazing cathedral, EVER
Who could pass up a hearty breakfast at a real Irish pub called Dunnes? We feasted on perfect scrambled eggs, toast and bacon with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice on the side. It was exactly what we had been craving since leaving the uk- Good bacon and toast equals Heaven! Dunnes was in the gothic quarter about a 20 minute walk from the …
Barcelona sweet barcelona
The plan ride to paradise was so great. They played music on the plane, but it was all classical, so I put on my iPod and jammed to T-Pain and Cris Brown. I sat by the window were I could see the beautiful Atlantic, and Barcelona as we entered the wonderful city. After I landed, I took a cab to my hotel. It took about an hour and a half to get to …
ME MYSELF AND MY FRIENDS
Kiki and I met in front of the hotel at about 10:00am this morning. We walked around to some of the local stores for about an hour. Then, we headed to the cathedral, by cab. It was so beautiful. There was alot of people there. Camera flashes were everywhere. I love finding out about a place before I go there, so here's some info sbout the Cathedral …

Historical Traveler Reviews Barcelona Universal Hotel
Great Hotel,Great location!!!
Hotel was great, staff were superb, rooms were moderm, extremely clean and very comfortable, the breakfast was always fresh with plenty of choice.Hotel is well located, there is a metro station outside and plenty of bars and restaurants nearby.Port Vell(harbour) is in easy walking distance as is La Ramblas.Very highly recommended!!!!!
Did I stay at the same hotel as everyone else?
This hotel was mediocre. The location was OK - nothing too special and our rate of 99 EUR without breakfast did not seem that great. The rooms are functional and the room we stayed in facing a courtyard was quiet to outside noise. The only noise we heard was a 4 am bachelorette party making its way back to the hotel. The pool looks like a large hot tub and the view from the hotel roof is mainly of ugly rooftops in the nearby district.
Great City Great Hotel
The hotel room was large and staff were friendly and even booked train tickets for us! The location is great, 5 mins away from La Ramblas and the hotel resturant was excellent. The only reason it has 4 stars is our room had no view. None the less, highly recommended and would stay again.
Excellent except for one thing
Hotel was well situated rooms clean and modern we even stayed in the suites on one occasion (sheer luxury) jacuzzi lounge and dining area.
Hotel near to metro, all the sights and the sea front however I could not stomach the breakfst the boiled eggs were always raw with water seeping from them. Other than that splendid.
Roof pool.
great hotel. pool was excellent. panoramic views of the city whilst having a swim. room was spacious and very good. location is good, the side road to la rambla should be avoided at night, a few unsavouries!!!
but the metro is only two stops and your there. will definately go back to this hotel in the future.
New and comfortable
This is a new hotel right above the Metro station - very convenient.
Just 2-3 stops from Rambla (the busiest street). The room is spacious and new with a comfortable bed, a big wardrobe, slippers. The swimming pool is very small but too cold to swim anyway. The breakfast is also good and replenish frequently.
The guard is cool but helpful. I also booked the Flamingo show from the reception counter at a cost of ~58 Euro per person. The table location for dinner is great and the seat for the show is just the best (at the middle of the 1st row!).
Really enjoy staying here.
Note : The metro exit to the hotel close at 10PM, you have to use the exit at the other end and walk back (1 block) after that time.
Fantastic!
We stayed here from the 7th to the 10th November 2003 and cannot fault the hotel.
The staff are courteous and efficient and the room was excellent. The maids did an excellent job cleaning the room everyday and the breakfast was lovely.
It is a well-positioned hotel within walking distance of Las Ramblas and the port and there is a Metro station (Paral.lel) right outside from which the whole of Barcelona can be reached and from which the Funicular to Montjuic can be caught. We could see the cable cars on Montjuic from our room which overlooked Ave. Paral.lel.
Loved Hotel Universal in Barcelona!!!
This hotel was great. The staff is superb. Their recommendations were right on. They also have free internet access (computer stations) on one of the top floors, ask the front desk. Also, the hotel seems very newly built. When I return to Barcelona, I will be staying at the Universal.
Great Position
The Hotel was in a good spot to visit places of interest in Barcelona.
The room was above what we expected only down side was while we were there a BIG group of Americans arrived and the Breakfast was unable to cpoe with them plus the one off guests.
Barcelona visit - Hotel Universal Barcelona
Just returned from a 5-day weekend in Barcelona. Great time - absolutely beautiful weather, etc. The hotel Universal Barcelona was well situated, although there are some areas to avoid at night.
Everything is easy to walk to from there - you walk straight down the road to the sea and through a side street to the Ramblas. The metro station is right in front of the entrance to the hotel, as is the Funicular Station to go up Montjuic. The hotel is very modern and the front desk staff are really helpful and pleasant. The rooms were great - nicely decorated and brand new with every amenity. Nicely soundproofed - choose a room on a high level. The breakfast was OK (it was included in the deal we had), although nothing special. You can get it delivered to your room. We didn't try out the restaurant as we had too many other things to do. The pool on the roof was nice - it was really small but it was pleasant to catch a few rays of sunshine after walking around all day. Small exercise room with a few new machines, etc. All in all I would go back to this hotel for my next visit to Barcelona. Had a good time doing all the usual tourist things. Took the train (1-hour ride) to Port Aventuras (Universal Studios) near Salou - I go every year to Florida but was nicely surprised by this park. Salou is nice to have a walk along the seaside, etc.Just mail me if you have any questions.Marilyn
