Our time in Tavira has gone quickly. We´ve enjoyed soaking in the local flavour whilst sitting at our favourite pastelaria (pastry shop but really a cafe) in the Praça Dr. Padinha. We've had fish a few times - Chris has been more adventurous than Tony in this department! On Wednesday we caught the ferry for the short journey to the beach on the Ilha de Tavira. Our first swim in ...
Tavira, Algarve, Portugal chris_n_tonyCaught the train from Faro to Tavira (about 30 minutes trip) and walked up hill and down dale to finally get to our accommodation. Very hot today and quite humid. The accommodation is quirky (as is the owner), right next to the railway bridge over the river. Trains seem to go past every hour or so but thankfully not all night!
The town is beautiful, lots of buildings seem to date back 100 - 200 years, some are a lot older. Like Faro, most of the ...
... Very authentic Spain. One of the Irish pubs had a 9am - 5pm happy hour. Which is a nice way of saying "we hike up our prices at night". After running out of Albufeira, we headed over to a church I wanted to see in Almancil, Igreja de S. Lourenço. Unfortunately we had to drive through quite a couple of small cities with traffic problems. I got mad at Kevin on the way because he purposefully and flagrantly ignored a no left turn sign ...
Olhao, Algarve, Portugal claesch... timely gap in the traffic gave me time to hurry across). Then came another turn, this time heading due west to Ayamonte, complete with signs announcing 'Portugal'! Another helpful sign alerted me to the half-hourly running of the trans-Rio Guadiana ferry and a glance at my computer showed me it was 10.11 am with the next ferry sailing at 10.30. The incredibly helpful kilometre markers that can be found on all Spanish roads told me that 5 km remained to ...
Vila Real de Santo Antonio, Portugal jamie_pete... heat before finding a petrol station with a stock of juice, water and snacks. I pressed on but it was a real slog. Psychologically I was not enjoying myself and I think it had a lot to do with the fact that today was the penultimate day of the trip. It was not THE day, but the day BEFORE the day; it felt like I was finishing second in a two-horse race. However, there was no question but that I would keep going and ...
Huelva, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands jamie_peteARRIVED from Huelva ariived here kinda late (no train to lisbon until morning) so, sleep outside the train station with the gypsy family right next to it and get a train in the morning, or spend most of my dwindling funds on a night bus to Lisbon? i had ...
