Wonderful place to stay in the heart of Constance with its historical memorabilia and friendly atmosphere. Enjoyed returning to this friendly hotel whose staff remembered us and welcomed us back.

We arrived back in Constance having done 203 kilometres and passing through three countries - Switzerland, Germany and Austria. On our 5th day we had breakfast in Germany at Lindau, morning tea in Austria (Bregenz) and dinner in Switzerland at Rorschach and all within 45 kilometres! On the way back, I explored different ways of heading home (that's another way of saying, I really didn't know where I was going, but kept heading down and recognised some landmarks, so I wasn't bothered!) and arrived home as it was getting dark. ... divers take advantage of - very popular on the day we were there. Actually, the whole lake area is popular - you see, the government enforces Sunday as a family day, so very few shops are open and you see families out enjoying themselves, going places and having fun together - lovely to see!

Monday, I took the bold step of going to the shops alone to see if I could buy stuff - I went to 3 different stores and bought one thing in ...

... I found it a fascinating detour and I have tried to learn more about the geology and history of the Church of the Devil.

Afterwards Monika and I (and Leo the Dog) walked along small roads on wide open fields and then through roads in pine woods to get back to her house in Schlatt. Cows watched us with wary eyes to make sure we were not going to bother them.

This morning Monika and I set out for Appenzell, Switzerland.  We made our way along (very) windy roads to the base of the mountain named Saentis.  A gondola went to the top, but we were content with enjoying time by the cafe at the old wooden cafe-hotel after hiking through a lovely pine woods.  Dogs were everywhere on the patio and the sunshine was strong and warm.  At 1,352 meters ...
