... catch the bus. These walks are not the faint of heart – but we knew that and took slow, leisurely walks.

Of course, when we were touring Neuschwanstein, the clouds opened – and torrents of rain started. By the time we finished, it was raining, but not too hard. Being the good boy scout (always prepared), Frank pulled out plastic ponchos and we took off for the top.

... of the lake, popular with mountain bikers. I notice a couple of them stare right at me as they pass, which seems a bit odd--people don't usually stare at each other in this part of the world. Then I realize it's because they're wearing helmet cameras, and I guess they want to get a good view of this odd character hiking down a mountain carrying a guitar! Day 285 6 hrs, 16.6 kms The valley gradually narrows into a gorge, and I leave the grassy fields behind. Luckily there's a trail through the forest along the rushing turbulent river. It's a popular area for camping--there's a fun looking (but unfortunately locked) rope/cable bridge across the river and an "Indian Camp" a cluster of teepees I guess for young folks to have a Native American style camping experience (this is Austria, right?). And then ...

1739. A Cozy Night Stay

Day 285 5 hrs, 5 kms In Pfunds I make a discovery that is both sad and happy: it turns out that these guesthouses are a lot cheaper than I'd thought. It's happy because that means that I don't have to camp all the time--but it's sad because I wish I had figured this out sooner--maybe I woud've picked guesthouse over camping the last couple of nights! I decide to do ...
