... and Dad but I have to wait until like 3 here so that it's not ridiculously early in the morning there. Also after all of this I'm really considering when i call my travel agent looking into what kind of group tour package I can get. I wanted to do it all my own ... but **** I don't know if I can at this point. I'm rather shaken and it's taking all my will power to convince myself that I shouldn't just give up and go home. I really do just want to go home right now but ...

Sightseeing vs School- the ultimate battle

... cool, and my favorite part was the room that houses all of the Lady and the Unicorn tapestries. I didn't expect them to be there so I was really happy when I found out that they were. The big disappointment of the visit was that the authentic Roman thermal baths were closed and will not reopen until next Spring. Oh well, next time. Second stop was the Conciergerie which is where Marie Antoinette, Louis XVI, and Robespierre were famously ...

Tour de France '08: "Le Tour Toujours!"

... with flashing blue lights, coming towards us. And, right behind them... there they were! In seconds, they were speeding past us, the front runners distinct in their colours, then the peloton, a blur of colour and faint whirring sounds, as a rainbow of riders came and went up the road. We turned to follow them on the screen for the next few minutes, and then the advance cars came back down the road, on the opposite side of the Champs. Then the other cars, followed by the ...

Paris - day 1

Paris Our plane was a 777 300, hadn't tried one before, very nice, and the business class seats were amazing. Would have loved to try those. Didn't get the exit row, but the row behind. The plane was very full. Had planned to stay awake for a few hours, but as it was after 11pm by the time we took off, I didn't succeed. Did get some sleep even though it didn't feel like it at the time. It was a long flight. Landed just before 7am. It took for ever to get ...

Museum Free Day.. Oh, the crowds!!!

... time as we didn't need to purchase any tickets or anything.. So donning our Rick Steve's audio guide, we quickly made our way to the first of the 3 ladies of the Lourve - the Venus De Milo. Famous because she was one of the few original Greek Statues still around, and I guess also from that Simpsons episode where Homer steals the Venus de Milo gummy lolly.. =P Our next masterpiece was the Winged Victory, set at the top of the Napoleon staircase, she was ...

Introduction Part I

Seven minutes is a long time. It's enough time to listen to most pop songs at least twice, read a newspaper article, take a quick shower, watch 1/3 of a sitcom or even make a quesadilla. Another thing you can do in seven minutes is run from terminal C to terminal A of Philadelphia's International Airport. That's what I had to do to make my connecting flight a few Fridays ago. As I got off of my first plane to Philly I heard the announcement for the last call for passengers ...

Paris

... hours long. Anyway, the 1st floor of the Palace did not smell right for a palace. Maybe it was me, but with all the different paintings of the Frenchmen, I swear it was all the same guy or close to even though the names were different (no offense intended). The 2nd floor was much better, including the smell. This palace is lavish and large. Once touring the inside, I went to the garden. Large doesn't even begin to describe this garden. It was massive! Over a mile to the ...

Cabu a Paris, the penultimate French catoonist.

... Across from the BHV there was an exhibition of Cabu's cartoons of Paris and Parisiens. I had wanted to see the exhibiton last fall but there was always a huge queue and we never made it. Since there was no line this time, we decided we'd try and go after lunch. Of course when we returned there was a bit of a queue. We were on the wrong side of the street to enjoy the sun, so the wait was a little blustery and chilly. Nonetheless Rob (who ...

... every time it crosses another train on the track my heart would jump as the whole train jolted violently. Ok, after that it was unbelievably good. I went to the Louve, Orsay, Notre-Dame, Arc de Trumphe and Eiffel tower the first day (was actually a slow paced relaxed day believe it or not). No big lines, the museum pass helped, so did touring the Notre Dame at 7:30 before anyone arrived. Actually, notice how a lot of my ...

Paris Therapy

Work sucks! Well, it's not so bad, but it's mind-numbing and I need a pick me up. Where better to head for than my favourite city of Paris, the place which seemingly has everything and continually surprises you at every turn. This was a visit of two contrasting days, firstly with travelling with my parents and marching my aunt, Sandra, from Australia around the landmarks that pepper the Seine. I've lost count of the number of times I've wandered the route Montparnasse ...
