... I was crazy mad with the speed of the descent.

Not much else happening today, had a nice pasta lunch and may double up for dinner. Cleaned the bike it was filthy with all the rain we have had and watched a little TDF.

We are off at sparrows to drive to Le Bourg D'Oisans to spend the day in the region. I will climb the legendary l' Alpe with its 21 hairpins and the meet Mich at the Saturday markets in Le Bourg.

Woke up with high hopes of an early ride today looked out the window and could not believe how far down the mountain the cloud had rolled. Climbing big Cols was out of the question.

We took an early morning trip St Jean de Maurienne to stock up on supplies and have a coffee and croissant. The weather started getting worse so it was time for bread, cheese, salami and wine.

By the afternoon the rain stopped ...

Beaten by the rain!

... and if the weather permits I will add the Montee La Toussure at 1705m.

Right outside our doorstep is the road to the Col Du Telgraphe and the Galibier which tops out at a frightening 2645m. That's looking like my Sunday sparrows ride.

We visited the ski village of Valloire today just above (on the road) but below the top of the Telegraphe in elevation. I could see part of the Galibier from there. Its an intimidating looking climb.

Until tomorrow

... we then set off to the Gorges du Fier near Lovagny. They were meant to have a waterfall but the water level was way too low. You will see us on the platform in the pics and the flood meter shows the water rising to about 6 meters above where we were standing.

Tomorrow another early ride before we head to Switzerland and the border city of Geneva.

... water, discolored from running across and through the slate stone that makes up the majority of the rock formations in the area. This slate makes for magnificent sites. There are vast open rock faces and the sun was shining such that the rock looked silver against the green of the pastures around it. Once at the top, we wandered around a bit and then made our way back down, making a stop in the ski village for a refreshment break. ...
