      ... above them on the domes. Well worthwhile as the horses are beautiful, even though they were stolen from Constantinople. Basilica itself was built between 9th and 15thC in the Romanic-Byzantine architecture. It is very dark inside but has the most amazing mosaics on the walls and ceiling. I hate to think how many squares of gold and all the colours of ceramic were used, or how long it took to complete them all. Building reminded us of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul ...

      ... struggling with logging on. They said the ACSI inspector for campsites said Italian Internet is rubbish (well we know that already)

      The Lidl was excellent AND, how can the price of a bottle of Chilean wine in Italy be €2 when in UK it’s (check the bill photo, you fill in the current UK prices!)

      ... was a lovely way to spend the evening. All the palazzos were lit up and everyone was out enjoying the sites of Venice. (There was a giant spider above back door on the vaparetto which drew a lot of attention as well).

      We disembarked at St. Mark's Square and walked around the square, listening to the dueling bands at each caffe, before settling down at Gran Caffe Quadri with a glass of prosecco to cap off our Venetian evening.

      After our short ride on the fast train from Rome to Venice (top speed of 245 km/hr on our 3.5 hour ride), we arrived at around 5:30pm. Although we were only about a 1/2 mile from the hotel, it took us about an hour to wind our way to the beautiful old hotel.

      So the starboard side of the ship won again today and we were able to stand on our balcony (as opposed to the hundreds that lined the decks) and watch as we passed right by St Marks Square as we entered in to Venice. Having been here before without Kevin, I knew what to expect but he was stunned, and seeing it from just that little bit higher vantage point that the ship gives was an added bonus! While there is all sorts of commotion going on... yachts jostling ...
