... shock to our systems after months of Australian winter. After checking out a nearby, swanky shopping centre, we ventured to Chinatown. This was a cool part of town with lots of cheap buys. We found a cheap restaurant to eat some dinner and then it was back to the airport for flight number two. After such a long day in the heat and humidity, we were both exhausted and managed to get a relatively solid eight hour sleep on the flight from Singapore ...
... I thought there was no chance, but somehow I made it with 5 minutes to spare. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to pick up a bottle of water, so I'm gonna be real thirsty after 5 hours on this hot and slightly stale train. But I'll take that over waiting two hours for the next train. Thankfully I bought some dried figs in Istanbul, so I have that for sustenance. From the train window, the terrain is flat and mustard brown. I see shabby two story square houses ...
... kind people, so willing to care genuinely. They go out of their way to care for us and call us multiple times a day just to check up. I want to do duaa for these people. I think perhaps that is what being here has taught me so far: to take a moment and just live in the moment, to acknowledge people and their experience more than the gorgeous scenery and landscape. ... for Muhammed's sword and cloak, which are on display there. However, there were 3 exhibits. The first was a "Treasures of China" exhibit, which celebrated the connection China and Turkey shared being on each end of the Silk Road. The biggest surprise in the exhibit? There were 4 soldiers from the Terracotta Army on display! The other exhibit that blew us away was the Ottoman weapons exhibit. The swords we saw were just so ornate and big! One of them was over ...
