... passed the Bosphorus strait and saw Asia on the other side! The coast line is well developed and the locals were relaxing by the waterside. It was a chance, although very short, to see the locals living their regular lives. But as the city went by, I felt that excitement, the one you only feel when you are doing the thing that you know you are meant to do. Our first stop was the Topkapi Palace, home of the Sultans that ruled the Ottoman Empire from 1453 until the close of World War I in 1918. Our English-language audio guide to the palace continued to refer to the Eunuchs who ran the Harem. There was even a tableau depicting the Eunuch.
