... the gift shop, we went to the pedestrian area and I searched for gnocchi. I did not find gnocchi on any menus but I did find an Alsatian restaurant, so we all had flammkuechen and a refreshing Swiss wheat beer (mom opted for the Swiss wine).
We didn't stay out too late because tomorrow my vacation starts and we are getting up somewhat early to begin our road trip across Austria, which I am really looking forward to!
Mulhouse, Alsace, France purplevelvet... br>It was like traveling the world in a few hours! A great time but a bit too crowded. As the night wore on the crowd seemed to grow even bigger, or at least more exuberant. But the atmosphere was very festive and everyone was having a good time.
From what I have been told it is tamer during the day and more geared towards children, but anytime during the festival seems to be a good time out.
... ruins scattered throughout the area around the museum. We of course went straight for the large Roman theatre and then walked over to other nearby sites, including the temple facing the theatre, the main marketplace and town hall, a bakery, and the very interesting well house and bath house where you can go down into the well and look out to the bright sky high above.
All the walking combined with the heat had us pretty wiped out so we headed back to ...
... stay for a few days. I have convinced my friend to come along so I will have company in the evenings. Right now the SBB is having a summer sale on their train fares and he took advantage of this. I haven't been to Geneva since the winter so I am looking forward to seeing it in the summer!
Basel, Basel, Switzerland travelingdiva... The craziness moved back to Basel and stayed there for a few days. I managed to see a few events over the days but was most impressed with how crowded the streets were. You couldn't walk from Barfusserplatz to Marktplatz; instead you just had to wait for the crowd to move you in the right direction. There was a lot of music, a lot of interesting costumes, and a lot of strange music. And a lot of fun too.
Basel, Basel, Switzerland travelingdiva... down. When we popped out at the top, the slightly swaying tower gave us an excellent view of the city and the river below. Being right on the border of both France and Germany, this vantage allowed us to see three different countries, although I have no idea where Switzerland ended and France or Germany began. It is quite possible, and I imagine almost certain, that Switzerland ended just where the flat, grassy land ...
Basel, Basel, Switzerland stephen.turner... nap, and then head to the train station because I had missed my train to Graz by then. To get me back to Graz in time to start classes, we booked a bed in the sleeping car and I was on my way home. So ends me February travels-many thanks to The Webers in Stuttgart, David and Linda for accommodation and to Linda's amazing neighbors for opening your apartment to us at such late (and short) notice. Leben lang und erfolgreich, Whitney
Basel, Basel, Switzerland w.zahn... Im in Switzerland in February and I am sleeping in the ******n van..Goodnight everyone!!!!!! Horrible idea. I don't know the temps that night, but it was freezing. Snowman, and myself did it though...he took the front, and i took the back. It was like sleeping in a refrigerator. I woke up (for the 33rd time) and the sun was starting to come up.
