... the ferry rolling and the boardwalk was very challenging, especially for Jeanette who amazes us each day with the obstacles she is faced with. The next village was Corniglia, which we passed before stopping at Vernazza, where tower like buildings flank the narrow alleyways leading down to the anchorage which is set in a fairytale bay. ... and has a population of over 180,000. But we were off to Pisa and Firenze which you may know better as Florence. The thing that we were reminded of often through the commentary was the age of the buildings and the way things have changed over time. Today Pisa is some 10 kilometres from the coast, but in the 11th century it was a major seafaring town in the Mediterranean. Over the centuries of time, the coast has moved. Quite amazing.

Livorno is a lovely quaint seaside town, nestled between canals and towering buildings – a bustling fishing village which is bursting with heritage – we wandered the streets for a while, soaking up the atmosphere.

Ethan was showing the first signs (well maybe the fourth or fifth signs) of exhaustion. Bidding Livorno goodbye, we returned to the ship to enjoy its creature comforts.
