... ill once we made it to the station in Pisa. Not so fun.
Still, ok – we’re now in Pisa, right?, and so we should make the best of it. After getting a better map from the local tourist office, we walked from the Pisa train station to the Fiume Arno River (the same river that flows through Florence). During our walk, we saw this unique, teeny-tiny church named Santa Maria della Spina, which hung right on the edge of ...

Stayed at Affittacamere Patrizia Hostel in Rio Maggiore in Cinque Terre and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
When we got to the Hostel it was just an office and no one was there. Our keys were stuck to the door with instructions on how to get to our dorm room. There was another set of keys there too so we could have taken those too and ...
We are finally home and it is actually Nov. 20th. We finally got in last night around midnight and could not download anything for the last several days because WiFi is too advanced for the small town we were in. It was the most relaxing of all the ...
Cinque Terre, Italian Riviera, Italy lucy1279I have resolved to try and keep this blog more up-to-date.
So much has happened since late July that i wont even start writing it down, but to summarise our drive as follows:
Arcachon
Bordeaux
Flo rac (Ardeche)
Montpellier where the family ...
... is the third oldest structure in Pisa's Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square) after the Duomo (cathedral) and the Baptistery of Giovanni.
Although intended to stand vertically, the tower began leaning to the southeast soon after the onset of construction in 1173 due to a poorly laid foundation and loose substrate that has allowed the foundation to shift direction. The tower presently leans to the southwest.

... never been out of Australia just how old everything is and that most of it is still standing. Someone on the boat said to me 'what do you want to go to Pisa for' and I said the obvious 'to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa' and he said 'haven't you seen photos of it?' It certainly is not the same and you really have to see these things in real life if you have the opportunity. We ...
Livorno, Tuscany, Italy stephgraeme... collected all of us and our hundred pieces of luggage and took us through this labyrinth of paths around the rome airport to a half-bus that was double-parked for god-knows-how-long. we jammed our suitcases into the van and piled in. about 40 minutes into the drive along the pitch-black italian countryside some things crossed my mind: "where the eff am i? is this really the port agent? this would be a great start to a horror movie. if i die and these are ...
livorno, Italy kari-the-1... to stabilize it by using sandbags. It began leaning even when it was being built, with the upper floors shifted to the other direction to help counteract the lean. The Tower has been standing for over 900 years, but guide always said to hurry because it might fall down! It was great to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa in person. Then it was back on the bus and we spent the rest of the day on the ship.
Livorno, Tuscany, Italy kansassharps... views, but still feeling the chill to the air. The next day we took a very touristy little train up the mountain to see the sea of ice glacier. Was a fun ride up, felt like a kid, it went pretty fast but not as fast as the cable car. It was an old track and pinion train which made unnerving clonking noises as we went. When we reached the station and caught the first glimpses of the glacier I was really disappointed, it just looked like patches of melted ...
