Travel Blogs from St. Moritz
This morning we caught a series of 3 trains to take us from our hotel in Zurich Airport to St Moritz. St. Moritz is home to the rich and famous during the skiing season. The tourists desert St Moritz at this time of year so it is fairly quiet. The journey involved us catching 3 trains and a bus. One train from Zurich Airport to Zurich - about 10km …
We left Passau Germany and took to the autobahn. It was raining most of the way so it was good that we weren't sight seeing today. We had about 450km to get to Chur and over 400km was on the motorway. We were travelling at 140km when a van over took us. How rude!!! It's interesting to see that BMW drivers are the same the world over. I won't use the word here. We actually passed a Porsche. I wasn't sure if I was allowed to do that. It's also interesting to note ...
... go down in the history of this trip as the only place where we made any dough. Charlie had set up rock shop in the main plaza, on the edge of a lovely marble park bench where we lunched. The two usual customers had bought a few for the handlebar bags, but a third passer-by was coerced into having a look. She was not interested in the 50 cents spending money I tried to slip her way, insisting on using her own. She had a look, went off to consult with her friends, and returned ...
... rest of the day to do as we pleased. We had been given a mountain railways pass each, which enabled us to go up the alps in the funiculars and cable cars. We went up Piz Nair, which os 3057m, to get there we went on two funicular trips and a cable car. The view was great, from the top it was a 360* view and down to St Moritz. I could see and hear the cows and their bells. We had lunch up there, yet another spectacular backdrop. Once down ...
... the bus and over more mountains on our was to St Moritz. The Julier Pass was very scenic but a little different from other alp areas, less trees and more exposed rocks. The photos don't do justice to the scenery over here. Tonight we had drinks in the hotel bar "complements of Insight" and then a group dinner in the restaurant. The purpose of the drinks was to allow the tour director to do a bit of company promotion and praise those that had done more than one Insight ...

We have been told not to expect too much of the hotels in Switzerland. The Hotel Baren proved to be an exception to this. It has good sized bed, bath and sitting rooms and a balcony with beautiful views of the mountains behind St. Moritz.
The food was OK but not what I would normally order (Broccoli soup, ham and turkey and fruit salad).
There is no internet in the room but it is available in the lobby.
