There really was a sandy beach with palm trees, hammocks , deck chairs and loungers, and with the water in the background you could have been on a tropical island in the Caribbean.     ... about a mile to the Schloss Castle. Located at the highest point in Heidelberg, it was built in the 12th century and reminiscent of old movies where they could see the enemy coming for miles. I'm sure there were plenty of sword fights here and lots of wine, women and song (so to speak).
