We left Nuremberg during dinner, sailing through the night and morning towards Bamberg, cruising through the part of the 106 mile long Main-Danube Canal. Begun as Charlemagne's dream in 793, it was completed in 1992 with 16 locks. Connecting the Main and Danube rivers, it enables river travel from the North Sea to the Black Sea.
