We started off the day with the promised 4 wheel drive transfer to the Col de Sasc. The lady who owns the gite (and 6 others in the village) was going to drive us. Her vehicle was a bit different from what we expected...40 years old and open topped. She lends it out to a lot of people, so as we walked up to it she said she hoped there was some petrol in it. She turned out to be a spirited driver and we had to hold on a bit as we spent half an hour on a dirt track. She dropped us ...

... and a comfortable bed. The next thing our host said to us was to give her all our washing and she would return it clean and dry by the afternoon! This wonderful offer was eagerly accepted...So instead of washing our clothes we relaxed in a banana lounge next to the outdoor heated swimming pool. This appeared in due course and he drove us the rest of the way to our destination at Goulier. NOTE: there are no pictures today as it was far too wet to expose the camera to the weather. Just imagine a mountain landscape with water everywhere! Stats: Distance: 13.4 km Total ascent: 418 meters Total descent: 1239 meters Kathy and ...

... gain of over 1100 meters. We started off by missing a turn but soon realised this and retraced our steps to the correcet path without too much trouble. We went upwards through the forest which was becoming increasingly damp and very dark due to the thick cloud cover, and eventually reached the treeline. We heard a few rumbles of thunder but nothing to be too worried about. Rain persisted for a while but then eased off ...

We had a surprisingly good dinner last night considering the isolated position of the gite. Most of it (except the chicken) came from their own vegetable and flower garden. The plate of salad had about 5 different flowers mixed with the vegetables, and they were all edible. This was followed by a chicken casserole which was delicious, and the desert was artfully folded pancakes with coconut icecream in the centre. A young Israely couple and their toddler daughter shared the ...
