Well we arrived from Clermont -Ferrand to Nontron in the Perigord region to see friends of Jane travelling part autoroute and part of the way on small windy departemental roads to get to our destination. On the way to Nontron unfortunately, Jonathan had a slight accident as his tummy did not enjoy the journey, so the rest of our journey was somew...

Set upon the River Vezere and quite pretty due to its 15th and 16th century Maisons a Tourelles, which looks like miniture castles due to their turrets. The rain had stopped for our little walk around the village but started again when we got back to the car - great timing!
Today was eventful yet relaxing. We just walked around this town that had tons of history and shops and was just great. I bought some new jeans and a shirt and found some things that i only wish i had the money to buy! We got a can of Dr. Pepper, which you can't find anywhere by the way, for 2 euros which is like $3.50 or something. Karen keeps ...

We left the bordeaux region today for the dordogne valley - the ancient town of Sarlat - waaaay medieval-
I've determined that there is not enough of france to walk in to justify the amount of food we've been eating...oof. We havent even had any pastries or creme brulee we're so full from lunch and dinner!
we"ll post more in the matin!...
My mother-in-law was right of course when she suggested one of my last bits would be about mixed feelings.
We are going back to Amsterdam the day after tomorrow and though we have spent about seven weeks here, it feels like it's only just begun. It goes without saying that health problems have been a fly in the ointment - very frustrating not...
Just a quickie before we leave for St. Leon-sur-Vézère. Another puzzle. Ants again.
I left a cup of orange juice on the table outside and noticed some ants making their way towards it. Well, it was hot and I thought they were either thirsty or fancied a swim, and forgot all about it. Till we sat down for dinner and I saw what looked like ...
We had obviously arrived at an inappropriate time. The staff was just sitting down to start their own meal, but we were still graciously escorted to a small, wobbly table in the middle of the empty restaurant and advised to take our time over the aperitifs. Our lovely French waitress spoke excellent English, which is unusual - turned out she was...

We left, of course. With regret, the atmosphere was so relaxed and friendly but I wasn't about to hang around for the next 3 or 4 hours feeling this hungry.
So on to the next village, fingers crossed there would be food readily available there. Aubas, some 10 km further on. I love this place. It is situated on the banks of the Vézère and it'...
La fête des feux de St-Jean is approaching - the 24th of June.
Probably the biggest celebration of the region, save le 14 Julliet of course. I'm not sure but I think it is a blend of John the Baptist's birthday and midsummer night. A big bonfire is lit at dark, each village having tried to haul in the most logs in a spirit of rivalry. Prece...
Stayed here in Biarritz - thought we would treat ourselves after the rough camping. Very nice indeed! LUXURY indeed.
