... of the villagers. A market was in progress, fish, meat and plenty of veges. Strangely there were two permanent butcher shops within 25 m of the market which also had a butcher. The vegetable stalls had some strange looking veges for sale. We noticed in these small towns shops specialising in goods such as cellphones, jewellery and toy shops for very small populations. Perhaps they are subsidised?

Prior to going to Nantes I had asked the Quentels if we could have some langoustines - my favourite of all shellfish. Something they gave me years ago and I've been fond of ever since.
Quick shell fish lesson:
A langoustine is not a crayfish, which is fresh water, but rather...Nephrops norvegicus, known variously as the Norway lobster, Dublin Bay ...

Needless to say, even the boneheads at Garmin can't differentiate the standard of one D road to another, neither can I. It could be brilliant or a complete patchwork quilt, it's a lottery.

The day was dull and overcast but dry.

Me and Will set off, bright and early, about 12.30pm, grabbed an N road out of Nantes and then hit the D roads.
Absolutely brilliant but we had some mileage to do.....

... br> Boof!! This pigeon came from nowhere and exploded on the rear back quarter of the Merc.
It all happened so quick, I ducked down behind my shield but had no choice but to ride through a cloud of feathers and snot. Yummy. That livened my ideas up somewhat.

Later on we were going through this village at a slow pace, up ahead I saw this dog stood at the side of the road and he was staring me out. As I got closer I slowed ...

... br> It was a major submarine base during WW2 built by the Germans, in the an enormous and imposing concrete bunker.

Opposite the bunker was a fairly new cinema - so that worked out well....
