    ... creatures. The ocean museum was interesting though with an amazing collection of shells. Also there to greet us was a lovely green parrot native to the island called a ‘Guacamaya’ a laughing parrot apparently.

    On the way back we saw many flamingos and lots of small herons. In all it was a superb trip and we are looking forward to seeing a greater variety of birds tomorrow on our trip to the Caroni Bird Sanctuary.

    ... walk on the beach
    until pursued by some salesboy from a nearby establishment – don’t they realise
    this sort of behaviour is only going to persuade me never to go!

    Had a swim & found a convenient palm tree to dry off
    under – Imagine these get snapped up pretty soon and then you have to fork out
    for parasols or biminis, a strange concept I’ve not seen anywhere else ...

    Had to keep the lovely big window shut for security reasons
    so the small bathroom window (with sea views from the shower) didn’t let in
    enough cool air for me not to have to bung on the a/c all night – my eyes are
    suffering for it now.

    Got up early and wandered along the beach to the centre on a
    hunt for good coffee – the place next door to the pizza joint came up trumps –
    a good ...

    ... beach bordering the lagoon was dirty & glass strewn, then
    there were several more baylets to cross, each with its own challenges, be they
    being built up to the waters edge, guarded by vicious dogs, with mucky creeks
    to cross or weed strewn with pockets of very soft (but not quite quick!) sand.
    The beach proper though was well maintained, the water reasonably clear, with
    even a few fish visible when swimming!

    Enjoyed sampling a couple of the local beers ...

    ... the late (after dark) arrival time and the fact I had no local currency had pre-booked the accommodation & taxi from airport. It soon became apparent, given current exchange rates, what a rip off the $10 taxi ride had been, but in the end it was a good job I had played it safe.

    Despite knowing my arrival time and his insisting that, as he lived on premises, he was always there, he had gone to the bar and got totally rat *****. ...
