... creatures. The ocean museum was interesting though with an amazing collection of shells. Also there to greet us was a lovely green parrot native to the island called a ‘Guacamaya’ a laughing parrot apparently.

On the way back we saw many flamingos and lots of small herons. In all it was a superb trip and we are looking forward to seeing a greater variety of birds tomorrow on our trip to the Caroni Bird Sanctuary.

      ... hot walk back.

Research on the ferry website reveals I am unable to get a
boat to Cumana, my preferred destination, until Sunday – thought it was low
season here but apparently not until the end of the month and this place was
certainly packed with local tourists for this evening’s paseo.

Had to head to the bus station to check out the options
before the damp squib of a sunset!

was heaving! Unfortunately this attracts the touts and their sickening patter
and tone really winds me up – they won’ take “no” for an answer and it just
ruins the atmosphere and my enjoyment.

Splashed out $4 on a good healthy fish dinner, seeing all
the fishing boats in the bay and the adjacent fish market reassures you it’s
likely to be good and fresh.

By 8am had my money changed and my new room sorted – El
Yaque Motion is a bit of a walk but worth it for proximity to the sea, helpful
owner & staff, cleanliness, value (bsf500) and facilities – a bedside light
and some hammocks would be nice but that’s just being picky!

Then off for an all you can eat buffet breakfast at Sharks
to set me up for the day. Spoke to the ticket sellers about the day trip to el
Coche but they were not hopeful ...

Said owner then proceeded to slur his way slowly and inefficiently through as much of the spiel as he could muster. He did invite me to join him back at the bar and I declined.
