Day 1 - Left Upnor at 6.15am, heading off towards Folkestone and the Channel Tunnel. Car (also known as 'Pepe') nicely packed by Mr Ribbons, managed to get more in than we first thought. No Operation Stack to contend with so nice easy journey arriving in time to grab paper and coffee before boarding the 7.50am shuttle to Calais (see farewell video!!). Arrival in Calais 9.25am and after finally sorting out 'le ...

The mountains are not really like any I've seen before. For starters, it's not easy to envisage their shape mainly because, as I said, they are largely covered in pines and assorted firs. Well this is where we ended up after legging it from Saint Nicolas the terrible town! We park up in the local Carpark in town as the Aire was predictably full at 9pm. We get our heads down and put the TV on and watch Terminator 2 with sub titles like you do! We are still laughing at ourselves and the great escape! We leave in the morning very early to go to another Aire so we can enjoy our last full day in ...

... almost straight northwards. The bottom end of The Mosel river comes out just east of Faucogney and we follow it for a short while up into some lovely gentle hills, a very nice area with some small functional towns. We are soon heading up and over several Cols deep in pine forests. Sadly not much to see due to dense woodland. The legs are tired from two days of cycling. Clive wants an easy day and we have to kill some miles to get back. Le Struthof Camp Natzweiler. ...
