      ... in front. We then headed off to the main town beach. It was a really nice beach with a beautiful sea but we had no idea whether the water was cold or warm. There were also no beachside cafes or bars, so it was quite underdeveloped. I don't know if this is a good thing or bad thing. We then strolled back to the ship. Mindelo was more picturesque and interesting than we had imagined but the islands are poor. There is huge potential but no idea what the future ...

      ... whole crop of maize failed. They therefore have to import 90% of their food. Even their own fishing industry cannot sustain them as their fishing rights have been taken away from them and their abundant supply of fish from the deep ocean around them ends up costing them more than imported chicken.
      Farmers struggle to keep their land irrigated to grow enough vegetables for themselves and market and many farmers have goats, a few cows ...

      ... in Brasil afterwords people we didn't know would randomly yell ..' U-GANDA' at us!
      On the 10th of November we crossed the equator - MSC had a Baptism by Neptune cermony to mark the occasion which involved having a ladle of water poured on your head and then kissing an octupus. I just watched ;)

      ... damn good for a commercial port, at least we didnt see rats the size of dogs like in Manaus. We have now cast off the lines, hopefully with all the crew back on board, and are heading north, north eastish, to the rock, Gibraltar, apparently another 6 days, i guess we are about halfway back to Marseille now. Fingers crossed the sea will be ok till gib, then just the gulf of Leon to get passed. that usually gives you a good whacking, hmm cant wait.
