Historical Traveler Reviews Atlantica Bay Hotel Limassol
Fantastic Holiday at Atlantica Bay Hotel, Cyprus
This hotel is fantastic with great food, entertainment, accomodation and the weather was brilliant for late September. This was our 3rd trip back to this complex and it was well worth it. All inclusive is excellent value for money. I would recommend that you choose the 4th floor overlooking the tennis courts if you want a completely quiet room. Best place to sunbathe is at the Sands Beach which is owned by the hotel and right on the beach, round the pool is noisy with the daytime activities. Food at lunch is better at the Sands Beach Tavern which is covered with all-inclusive. Sun beds are all taken by 8.00am so you have to be a early riser, some beds have towels on as early as 6.15am!! No children are allowed when you book with Thomson Gold and I have never seen children at this hotel from other companies. I would recommend this destination for couples, honeymooners and seniors.
Enjoyed a really relaxing holiday in Atlantica Bay for 2 weeks during July 2005. Will certainly return. The location could have been better - there was not a great deal to 'walk out to' from the hotel - but the bus service to Limassol was regular and cheap. We were happy to spend most of or time relaxing within the hotel - there were various events happening during the day that one could choose to do - for example - the 3pm quiz, or for the more energetic, water sports in the pool - or simply enjoying a pleasant lunch in the hotel beach restaurant with wonderful views of the sea. Food was reasonable and all inclusive option seemed a good deal.
Loved the relaxing atmosphere and incredibly clean pools. Entertainment was ok - quiet after 12pm which suited us!! Had a wonderful 2 weeks - looking forward to the next holiday here!
A Truly 'Gold' Holiday without the kids
Never having stayed in a Thomsons Gold property, we decided to book a quick 1 week stay at Atlantica Bay. The main thing that attracted us to the 'Gold' resort was This holiday will not be sold to anyone in the UK under the age of 16. Imagine that, peak season and no kids. Heaven!
I would like to say that Gold Holidays are sold outside the UK where they do accept children. I think I counted 2 young children in the week we were there. So no problem on this front.
One thing we did do was to upgrade to 'All Inclusive' before we left the UK. Although this only cost about £9.00 per day, it was well worth it as it covered lunch, ice creams and all local drinks. Purchasing separately works out much more expensive. The hotel's location is a little way out. So there is not too much opportunity to wander into the local bars or restaurants.
Firstly, if it is a beach holiday you are looking for, do not come to this hotel. It is small and all shingle/rock. Very disappointing. We spent the week around the hotel grounds. Two heated pools, fantastic setting and plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. There is even a drinks waiter service around the pool. I know it provides extra revenue for the hotel, but very nice touch.
The Thomson Entertainment Team were just fantastic. Plenty of things to do during the day. Different types of shows in the evening. Mostly a mix of comedians and groups. A really nice way to end a lazy day soaking up the sun. A special mention to John whose water aerobics in the morning are a DO NOT MISS.
Food was simply superb. Breakfast and lunch was always buffet. Evening meals were either buffet or a la carte. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Always nice and hot. Fresh and apertising. The hotel has a Gala Dinner Night once a week where you eat al fresco. We decided to eat buffet inside on that night. It appeared to us that the food was the same. The only difference appeared to be a less crowdy atmosphere inside than out. But still a great night.
We would certainly recommend this hotel.
Don't let some reviews put you off
My & my partner went to the Atlantica Bay for 2 weeks and can honestly say I don't know what some people find to moan about! We are 34 & 25 so please don't be put off by people saying this is only for the older couples as we had a fantastic time here. The food is dangerously tasty (as our scales can now confirm) and the service from the staff is exceptional. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated and it didn't matter one bit that we didn't have one of the sea views because we didn't spend much time in there.
The Entertainment Reps John & Jo were fantastic and certainly helped to make this a good holiday. The evening entertainment was a mix of groups, comedians, reps show (which is so funny) and a cypriot night. They do however have a house band which play a few sets a week and they get a bit repetative and dull. We like to try different places every year but we can honestley say that we wouldn't think twice about going back here again.
A few tips:- They do have HP sauce & Vinigar in the restaurant, you just have to ask. If you are all-inclusive you can get milk shakes and ice creams from the pool bar but have to pay for ice-lollys & Crisps.
Comfortable and Friendly
Just returned from this very friendly and comfortable hotel. Cannot praise the staff enough. This is our second stay at the Atlantica Bay, the first one in 2003 left very fond memories and this visit came up to all our expectations again. Peace, quiet rest by the wonderful pool area. Lots of good food (Back on the diet next week!) All in all good value for money.
Atlantica Bay the best
We spent a couple of weeks over last Christmas there, and the hotel just could not be faulted. The staff in every department were attentive and courteous without being 'in your face', the food was of such a quality and range that if you couldn't find something to please you, your diet must be 'Star Ship Enterprise' based, and the general ambience of the place was never once other than pleasing.
The room was comfortable, quiet and well serviced, and the hot water, especially in the shower, was a never- failing luxury. The situation is on a fairly busy road (quiet at night), but there is a private underpass to the beach, where the hotel have installed a nicely appointed beach side facility. There are two very good pools at the hotel, one heated, and one immense, with an attractive 'Willow Pattern' bridge straddling the narrower part.
A regular bus service runs into Limassol centre for a few small coins, and -thankfully- back again to the peace and serenity of Atlantica Bay Hotel!
I have just spent a lovely week in your hotel and I would like to thank all your staff for there attentive Service
I would especially like to thank Thomason Reps who made the stay so memorable and a great big thank you to Jo and Katie the entertainment reps I have never had such a great time
Great Grown up holiday
This was our first Thomson Gold holiday and it was a good experience, although not as great as the Platinum holidays we have taken. The Atlantica Bay is on a hill with a great pool area and gardens across the main road, which is beachside.
The room allocated on arrival was not great, next to the kitchen looking at the car park, so we asked to be moved and within 20 minutes had a lovely room overlooking the pool. We upgraded from half board to Full board, which seemed a popular choice, and enjoyed the benefits of good food and friendly waiting staff.
As promised by the brochure the hotel was pretty much adult only, which was nice but as you would imagine this pushed the average age of guest up to about 50. We were the youngsters at 38, but everyone was friendly and looking for a relaxing but fun time.
We were in Cyprus in October and found that it was very cold in the evening, but the entertainment still stayed outside which was a shame, as people were leaving half way through. The entertainment staff and the reps work really hard all day every day and could not be faulted in either their attitude or enthusiasm.
All in all good trip, not fantastic, but a relaxing holiday in a nice hotel.
We arrived at the hotel on a damp evening on December 18th 2004. Our spirits were lifted as soon as we came into contact with the hotel staff who were so helpful and friendly. How could you not love Cyprus ??
We spent two weeks at the hotel which of course took in the Gala Xmas and New Year evenings, Superb !!
I visited the Hair salon and found the girls wonderful,The manageress Ellie will make sure you get the most out of your visit. I even had the wonderful Swedish massage and found it so good, booked my husband for the next day.
We found that booking a hire car from a local company (George ) was far cheaper than the Thompson recommended company's by far.
The bus stops right outside the hotel, so the hire car was only for 4 days to take in the sightseeing at our own pace.
Thompsons have trips etc organised, but we chose to do our own thing.
SO ! to sum it all up. Guess where my husband is now ?
DOWN AT THE TRAVEL AGENTS. BOOKING THE SECOND XMAS AT ATLANTICA BAY HOTEL.
Really pleasant hotel
Just returned from holiday at the Atlantica Bay and have to say that it was much better than I expected. I had never been on an all inclusive holiday before and found the food, the choice of food and drink and the standard of service quite good. The hotel is pleasantly located looking over the sea, and has good amenities. Limassol is not an ideal location, and if you were planning to see something of Cyprus I would recommend a car. If you want to lie around the pool or beach then you probably would not need one.
