... Misschien is het echt geen slecht idee om op zo'n mooie vrachtwagen mee te rijden. The trains who are rumbling by less than 50m from our room, between us and the Indian Ocean, are packed until the roof. People are hanging out of the train through windows and doors. This looks very promising for the day after tomorrow! Maybe taking a beautiful truck isn't such a bad idea after all. Ons eerste 'hotel' is amper de naam hotel waardig en zeker de naam Ocean ...

... We decided that we would go out, so started off in a fairly expensive lounge which did have an amazing view and also some food so at least I could have some potatoe wedges, next we moved onto more of a pub place, before having a look around the outside of the lighthouse, as you do. Obviously, with the appalling defence cuts over the years, most of these regiments do not exist any more, having been subsumed into units with no history. A shame really, but I do know how to find the relevant Museums. It was an interesting place, quiet and airy (I had it to myself) and again I shall let my VT tip suffice.

... The train left Galle in the opposite directions meaning I was now facing backwards and on the land side of the journey. I could still see out of the other window but I was gutted to be away from the views for the bulk of the journey. This point was salvaged by the group of around 10 school boys who spent most of the journey singing and clapping songs. Was a nice accompaniment to a lovely train ...
