... Later that night, after we'd gone to bed, we were woken by a series of deafening bangs echoing around the surrounding hills, and thought the long-extinct volcanoes had come to life again - but it was just an enormous firework display in nearby Clermont-Ferrand . Nothing is more frustrating than being able to hear a huge firework display but ...
Royat, Auvergne, France oldagetravellerHi everyone I survived the bike and barge after completing about 350 ks for the week. The weather was sensational except for one day that we got caught in the rain riding home one day. Luckily we were near a village that had a bar so the group of 18 took the place over and sat it out. Martin the barge pilot and tour director claims he will not be able to go back there again. The food was amazing with a 3 course hot meal everynight, breakfasts and at ...
Clermont-Ferrand, Auvergne, France caroladele... Apart from a French motor home parked beside the main block, we are the only ones here. We parked at a distance from them because the sun was finally out and the pitch we chose had the most exposure to the setting sun. Much good it did us, because within the hour the clouds had arrived and an hour after that we were in the middle of a spectacular thunderstorm. It's now raining steadily and we've decided bed is the only option.
Clermont-Ferrand, Auvergne, France born2bongo... felt he saw in his country, he agreed to head a government in "Free France" (now usually called "Vichy France") after agreeing to allow the Germans to occupy 3/5 of the nation. After the war he was sentenced to death for treason but had the punishment commuted to life in prison by Charles de Gaulle, on account of his service in WWI. I can't help but think about that history as I drive through Vichy. A great man, a talented, and courageous and ...
Vichy, Auvergne, France joelmeekerOn Le Weekend we met a group of the French kids and clearly they fell in love with us. So shortly after that weekend they wanted to party with us again as soon as they could. And did we ever. Quentin had a number of us over to get to know us a little better. A couple 40s later we were much better acquainted. It was the start of a beautiful friendship.
Vichy, France beccx... t think I've ever eaten as much Mac Do's in my life. The guys then decided to take us to the beach for the day. This would have been such a fun and awesome day, if we were prepared. We had some snacks, but we didn't have our bathing suits, shorts or anything. We got about knee deep in the water, and that was about it. It was such a cute little spot though, would have been a great day if we could have grabbed our stuff. The boys played some rugby (most of them are swimmers at a ...
Clermont Ferrand, France beccx... Very cute, very clean. That night I met up with some people from my class, very randomly and we went to the Horse Races at the Hippdrome. It was pretty neat, and everyone was pretty cool. They had a heard of begals come out too, with guys on horses dressed in traditional English hunting outfits too. It really made me miss Kosmo. That night we headed to Le Gloulais. That's our pub. They love us there.
Vichy, Auvergne, France pille... t haut cuisine, but it tastes quite good, and is filling. The total for five of us with wine is € 66.00 (US$ 80.00). Beggars can't be choosers, and the owner turned out to be a really nice individual. Though we were unable to pronounce his name, Miryam called him Pierre, he was very helpful pointing out where we may be able to get hotel accommodation. His recommendation for a cheap night...the Etap Hotel near the railway station.
