    ... I can't help but jump in for a dip. I look like a fool hobbling over the slippery pebbles to try get out deep. It is, again, a super hot day.

    In Manarola we have another quick look around. Here there are big rocks you can jump off into the ocean to prevent the horrific pebble-trodding embarrassment.

    ... a taxi back to our hotel. By now it had stopped raining but it was early afternoon and there wasn't really time to do anything else much. We asked again about the internet and managed to change rooms where the internet did work. The room wasn't quite as big and it didn't have a balcony but at least we have the internet working now.

    It seems like a bit of a wasted day today. It's a long way to come for shopping and coffee. I guess we can't control the weather though.

    ... at the hotel. The town and beach looked quite nice, as did our hotel. La Spezia is much larger than anticipated, but easy to get around, and we found a pedestrian only shopping street that seemed to continue forever and kept Denise well occupied. After a light meal we returned to our hotel, and as our room overlooked the harbour we were entertained by a fireworks display that was the grand finale to an outdoor concert celebrating the completion of some civil ...
