... 1900. Downstairs we found an exhibition of model ships that were quite something. Ships were mainly sailing ships from years ago and varied in size from 30cm long to about four metres. A little boy's dream (and big boys). Needed some lunch after this and time to try to absorb all we had seen, quite overwhelming. Caught the tram to the northern section and walked the length of Brouwersgracht (Brewer's Canal). This is said to be the most beautiful of them all. ...

I spotted the most adorable, little girl rolling a ladybug with wheels alongside her mother. They caught up to the rest of their family and I ...

... occurs today. Also inside this walled area is the oldest ( & only remaining wooden house built in Amsterdam) and also another regular church. We also walked past what used to be the first Customs House in Amsterdam. Once the wharf/harbour area was extended it became a "Guild Meeting house" as the traders could get around or avoid going past the Customs House with their wares. Nearby was what used to be the Jewish Quarter, which has pretty well all been rebuilt, not because it ...

... died at the hands of the Nazis. Though not as comprehensive as some other museums, this didn’t really need to be - even having never read the story, just being there and seeing the place that had been a sanctuary for 8 people for several years, was sufficient. After lunch I made a trip into town and across on the ferry to Amsterdam’s Noord district, an area very different to the city yet only a 5 minute ferry trip away on a peninsula. With only a short time to explore ...
