Day 11 Speyer to Gambshime

A travel blog entry by tandemtales on Jul 07, 2015

Simon learnt a new trick today: he worked out he can cycle the tandem no handed! ( as long as I don't wobble it, the road isn't too bumpy and the road is fairly straight). This is terrifying but kept us entertained for about an hour whilst it was perfected without crashing. We saw another 'young couple' ( below 30) on a tandem today, simon as usual gave them a big wave and luckily didn't try out his new no hands trick. We called into Lidl for supplies and decided to lunch by the Rhine under a tree and look at our options. We hoped to meet the cyclists on the path but by 3.30 we decided that we may have missed them. And seeing tomorrow is Sunday it is not likely that anything will be done then either. We didn't feel like racing around for another hotel ...

We then had some breakfast which consisted on Siobhan and I sharing quiche and an Opera Gateau and Maggie having a passionfruit cake.

We then walked around the local markets and town and got lunch. It was a processed meat on a roll with sauce. Pretty good. And only 2 ...

The Karlsruhe Schloss was also destroyed by bombing in 1944. Sadly all of the original furnishings were destroyed, but the Schloss was rebuilt and now houses a museum spanning the entire 3 level complex. The ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian exhibits weren't so interesting, but on the middle level ...
