Yesterday we stopped in Bari, Italy. There were a lot of excursion options but we decided to do our own city tour. As soon as we entered the city we noticed the streets were blocked off and there were bails of hay in the corners. We had no clue what was about to happen but we had fun guessing. ... and very mellow ride through the Southern Italian countryside. Well chosen roads meant almost no traffic and we hit the halfway point of our first day's 70 km by a little after noon.  Spent an hour wandering around Gioia di Colle getting lunch organized which was a bit of a challenge on Sunday, then biked out to an archaeology site that had been inhabited since the 4th century BC where we settled in for lunch at the top of the hill ...

... and Charlotte had a croissant. Lots of Italians there and could see why - delicious and only cost 1.80 for everything.

Back on the road and a lovely drive to Polignano a Mare, a stunning tiny beach on the coast set against steep cliffs topped with buildings. This had been Charlottes contribution to the itinerary and it was well worth a visit. Spent a long time wandering the streets, ...
