... On Sunday, we travelled along the coast to Vaasa town, taking a ferry across to an island, then into Vaasa. We located Edvins Path, an outdoor sculpture museum set in a forested park. There are numerous works by Edvin Hevonkoski, a metal artist. We then drove to another island, to a village called Replot. We crossed over the biggest bridge in Finland, and drove out to a site ...

... chore to remove. 10 out of 10 then!

After a while we had sufficient breeze to try goosewinging and we gave it an hour but our forward progress was too slow, we wouldn’t have got to Vassa until late afternoon! With the engine on we were approaching our first destination, one of three marinas on Vaskiluoto, the island off Vaasa and adjoined by an embankment. This marina was not the one we would be staying at as it had no facilities with ...

... 360 visibility. It transpired that until the mid 1990’s this was a coastguard station, hence the building with the panoramic views. Entering the harbour, there were no other substantial boats around and there was a chap on the shore, who told us it would be OK to come alongside the pontoon, rather than use the stern buoy method. He kindly helped us with our lines and once done, we started chatting. Juha was here for a few weeks on a voluntary basis. There were a few rooms ...
