... the food is place to place. There were a lot of pork products in Tuscany (they can hunt wild boar there), there was limoncello and pesto everywhere you went, and an abundance of seafood in Cinque Terre (for obvious reasons), and Piemonte was just filled with veal and cheese. Honestly, even though we were only there two nights I was starting to get sick of the Piemonte-style dining - it was just too heavy and rich to keep ...

... our appt, serving coffee and gossiping to the locals.

Each day we took Ronaldo out and explored a new village, found somewhere cute for lunch and a glass of the local wine or 5 ( hey, I wasn't driving !!! )
Some of the villages castles were in ruins, some totally renovated , one even turned into an historic hotel .... Castello Nuovo. We had a look at the suites, complete with the original beds for the Italian royal ...

... a walk around the church and found ourselves a little restaurant to stop for lunch. Our first Italian pizza!!! Well I am thinking Pizza Capers could teach them a thing or two or three. Brendan ordered basically a meat lovers, salami, pepperoni etc and I ordered a Marinara pizza, yummy, lots of seafood and cheese on a thin crust, couldn't wait. We also ordered a lovely bottle of locally made vino which I might add was delicious. So here we are waiting for our pizza's ...

... we returned to the Antica, catching up on email etc. The sun was dropping, enough people about to create atmosphere without being noisy, and the resident dog and geese were wandering about the lawn. Sigh of contentment! Soufflé of zucchini and fresh tomato, ricotta stuffed zucchini flowers, risotto with veal sausage and sauted fillet of sirloin for dinner at a tiny but classy local taverna. Wednesday We make it to breakfast with time to spare! That's a first! ...

... Its on the fringe of town, which seems like a farming district. Cant see any welcome signs or where the foyer is, so we pull up near a gate and walk in. It is a long walk across an enormous courtyard. Picture an old western and the gringo walking into town, tumbleweed blowing alongside! There was a big old dog, staring quietly...ominous.
