... authentic item! Wow!

We were each able to taste a tiny bit or two of truffle during our time in Piedmont, and have to say that our palates must be very common, as we really couldn't see that the taste warranted all the fuss!

In addition to truffles, the region is home to some fantastic (and on this we all agreed) wines - namely the Barolo and Barbaresco wines. We visited both towns during the week, and tasted both varieties. There are ...

... a lovely castle and church. While it is a very small town it does have international concerts there each July in the town square. Next year it's Mark Knoffler. For lunch we drove into Alba, a town 35000, which is hosting the Alba White Truffle Festival. There were lots of people in town with many stalls with truffles as well as fruit, vegetables and meats. We explored the white truffle market where white truffles were selling for 200 Euros per 100gms compared to black truffles at 30 ...

... we returned to the Antica, catching up on email etc. The sun was dropping, enough people about to create atmosphere without being noisy, and the resident dog and geese were wandering about the lawn. Sigh of contentment! Soufflé of zucchini and fresh tomato, ricotta stuffed zucchini flowers, risotto with veal sausage and sauted fillet of sirloin for dinner at a tiny but classy local taverna. Wednesday We make it to breakfast with time to spare! That's a first! ...
