... it seemed, was covered with neat and orderly vineyards - a feast for the eye in our daily ramblings around the region. We did have several gray-sky days and occasional rain, so our photos do not show the region at its best, however the vistas we saw were memorable. The alps near Turin were faintly visible at the best locations.

Thursday, October 16th, we began our drive out of Italy, toward the beautiful French alps around Chamonix!

... a lovely castle and church. While it is a very small town it does have international concerts there each July in the town square. Next year it's Mark Knoffler. For lunch we drove into Alba, a town 35000, which is hosting the Alba White Truffle Festival. There were lots of people in town with many stalls with truffles as well as fruit, vegetables and meats. We explored the white truffle market where white truffles were selling for 200 Euros per 100gms compared to black truffles at 30 ...

Friday Oct 10 Agriturismo Le Arcate provided the best breakfast of our trip, only hope the photo does it justice. We set off this morning to a Grappa Distillery; our memories of Grappa go back to the 70s and the memories are rather dim because it could only be described as the local rocket fuel. Wed Oct 8 We said our goodbyes to Bernhard and Jacky having really enjoyed our all to brief stay in Beatenberg and set off back to Italy through the Swiss Alps. After four hours we arrived at the little town of Nus near to Aosta. Here we were having a late lunch in a agriturismo called Maisson Rosset.
