... came up. We decided to have lunch there and both Val and I had a nice bowl of vegetable soup. Val had hot chocolate as well - the Italian hot chocolate is so thick you can almost stand up your spoon in it! Due to the wether, we decided against going on to the next hut and instead returned to the Albergo Falzarego via a different route. When we arrived, we went up the gondola to the Rifugio Lagazuoi, which is at 2750 meters. We were to stay there that night, so ...

... is open for 15 minutes only each way per hour. The road signs in this area are written in three languages - Italian, German and Ladin - a language consisting of a group of dialects (which some consider part of a unitary Rhaeto-Romance language) mainly spoken in the Dolomite Mountains in Northern Italy in South Tyrol, the Trentino and the province of Belluno. It is closely related to the ...

Two Days of Hiking in the Dolomites

... slippery limestone downhill paths we made our way back to our "hut" for a gourmet dinner of sausages and potatoes, washed down by quantities of local red wine and followed up by delicious apple strudel for dessert. A couple next to us was playing a game that was etched into their table in the restaurant. It appeared to be "Nine Men's Morris" (found it on the internet), although that's not what they called it. After dinner we all turned in because we were tired. ...
