We had a great introduction to the history of Florence, particularly its Renaissance culture and Medici clan, and learned how to decipher certain buildings and monuments. Once the tour ended Jonathan and I lined up to climb Il Duomo. All I can say is thank god I'm in fairly good shape from all the walking and tube-taking I've ...

... and was completed between 1350 and 1359. It stands 84.7m high and has 7 bells within – each with its own name. The baptistery is a minor basilica and is the oldest building in all of Florence being built between 1059 and 1128 and popular theories suggest it was originally a Roman temple to Mars and unlike the Duomo is Romanesque not Gothic.
