... and twisted its way up, with rarely a 200m straight between any curve. The only stumbling block to a great ride were the trucks. Passing was done, by us and other vehicles but involved many elements of risk. Some corners had minders who guided the big trucks around to avoid truck jambs. The other side of the pass was the same - except going down, and some of the old trucks have very poor braking systems, so crawl along. One day though, this side ...

The climb took a bit over an hour and had OK views over the town from the top but maybe not worth the effort! ... and sweating profusely by the end of it. Afterwards I take a bottle of cool beer and feel better after my 4th dip of the day.

Cali is a city of 2.4 million souls. It is large and busy, but our hostel is only 15 minutes walk from the historic centre and in the relatively nice neighborhood of San Antonio. Though hot in the day, it is comfortable at night so that we do not need AC or a fan.
