... halt, turning in circles & reversing out of the ring. Other events included bucking broncos & wild horses, roping of cows & horses - don't do much lassoing, in some cases just laying a loop of rope at the feet of the animal & pulling tight if they step in - what a swizz! Had to leave well before the end as the last bus was 8pm & needed to find a taxi back - luckily some helpful policemen radioed one, as I was out in the boonies!
Jerez, Mexico ccchrissie... so we pulled up at a gas station on the main road and asked if we could stay there the night. No worries. We had tremendous fortune the next day. All feeling better we unhooked and drove into town. We drove past a little wine shop and parked up. We tasted a few wines (all of which were no better than draino!) when the owner happened to walk in. Don Ignacio or as he prefers "el Barron de Parras" . He spoke great english and when he found out that we ...

Among the works depicting the life of St. Francis, we found what we were hoping to see - the fabulous paintings of the "Virgin of Guadalupe". Images of the Virgin of Guadalupe can be found all over Mexico and where better to find them than where we were on this day - Guadalupe, Zacatecas. How lucky could we get? Here we were visiting the beautiful city of Zacatecas and ...
Zacatecas, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lobo... endorphins, it is just the city. There are so many uplifting vistas that one just can't help but feel good. It is a feeling I had in the four months we lived in Victoria, BC. There wasn't once on my daily walks past the old port, the Empress Hotel and down Government Street that I did not have a smile coming over my face and the affirmation - "damn, I am in a beautiful place". That is the feeling that Zacatecas elicited ...
Zacatecas, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lobo... great "crusty buns" and a good "Nescafe" from a vending machine for 7 pesos. The "Nescafes" are almost as good as the more expensive "café americanos" sold at coffee shops and restaurants. The plaza is also a great place for people watching, observing buskers and of course dodging the hordes of pigeons that are eager to get the crumbs of the "crusty buns". Exploring the northern end of the "centro historico" we were in search of Plaza Miguel ...

Calle 2 de Las Margaritas No. 105, Tel: 01 (492) 9251711, Web: www.lasmargaritashostal.com , Email: info@lasmargaritashostal.com I spent a couple of nights staying at this friendly family run hostel. Zacatecas, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico amazingjourneysThis morning we drove to the town of Zacatecas, we obviously have to change our speeds as everything takes much longer than usual. This is a mix of the hills, the speed bumps and the various checkpoints. On arrival we went to the campsite, parked up and got the moped to drive the 15km into town. Once there our first stop was the Eden Mine. This is situated in the middle of the town and was once one of the ...
Zacatecas, Mexico mikeandmaryAfter taking a 2 and a half hour train ride from Santa Barbara and getting into a car accident with my brother in infamous LA. I managed to be in great health for Mexico. With the help of Homer, we downed some drinks the night before which probably cured some of the possible setbacks of whiplash and backaches. Muchas Gracias Homer! Got up in the morning at 6:30 and got going by 7:30. Grabbed some burger king breakfast and it was Voy a Mexico!!! I met Tomas ...
Zacatecas, Mexico aushiro... recruiting his team. Sports bags were placed on the ground to form makeshift goalposts at either end of the arena. It had been a while since I'd played football but I fancied my chances nonetheless. Granted, it wasn't the Aztec Stadium but it was as close as I would get. 'Just go out and enjoy it!' I told myself. There were five of us in all - Alberta Bill, Bobo The Clown, Miguel, Alejandro and myself. Bobo called us together for an impromptu team talk. The clown spoke ...
Zacatecas, Mexico fintan... colonail architecture with fine baroque churches, well-laid out squares, elegant public buildings and a colonaded main street. I found a hotel and went out to explore. The streets were bustling with people out for the evening paseo and, far from being hicks, they appeared well-groomed and stylishly dressed. The proportion of good-looking women among the strollers lent added impetus to my decision to hang around awhile. Next day, I wandered up onto the hills above ...
