Really cute hotel

Wish we had more time here - it's really quaint with an old school bath with shower. The decor and corridors remind me of The Shining a little - bit creepy, but cosy. Clean rooms, plenty of towels and breakfast.
Outside is very noisy (as expected) and not great after dark - loads of people lingering. But hotel is nice. Just wish it had been a bit cooler so we didn't have to open the window - fan wasn't very strong.

Arcata, it's been very short, but very sweet. We are sad to leave after such a short time, but we must. ...if only the rubbish bus from Gold Beach had run earlier... Anyway, on this cloudy morning after eating the hotel-provided fruit, we got on the now normal-sized Amtrak coach at 10:25 to Martinez: our first stop on the way to San Fran. We were …

As we're in the middle of nowhere, our bus to Arcata (Ar-kay-da) isn't until 5:25, we decided to take advantage of being right next to Double D's and went for some lunch after being kicked out of our apartment at 11 and going for a little walk. We arrived at around 12:00, and didn't leave until 1:30 after copious amounts of food and sponging free …

After saying goodbye to my parents, we drove over to the coast via HWY 199 then to 101 to Arcada. We stopped along the way, enjoying the rain, and fog in the trees. We stopped along the way at Stout Grove (no Ewoks were out) then lunched in Crescent City, stopped at Trees of Mystery, and Fern Canyon. We were charged by a elk and forded three …

... five years ago one part of the tree fell according to the manager of the Inn. The second part had just fallen so there’s one part left. The smell was incredible – not bad but like pine trees and cedar trees, a very woodsy smell. The inside of the tree had a white middle and pink and red areas around. This was such an awesome experience. Kai and McKinley were really enthralled over the whole situation.

... and it seems like a tyrannosaurus could come racing around the corner at any moment. The creek had much more water than last time and more people too since this was a Saturday. It was very fresh and green there. We even found a small waterfall that had a good rainbow on it. Pics of the trail attached. Jie drove us out of there and that was fun...i took some extended video of this and she tried to hit every pothole, twist my ...
