Morgonen gryr över Redding. Det är redan gassande varmt i Sacramentodalen.
Det krävs bara ett par kilometer körning innan vi åter igen befinner oss i bergen. Gårdagens "plattland" har tagit slut.

De berg vi tidigare kört igenom är prydda med ett par palmer eller glesa tallar och snö. Men nu rullar vi in i guldrushens gröna dalar. …

After graduation, we followed the throng of families all trying to find their loved one in the masses of people who congregated at the end of the field closest to the gymnasium where the soon-to-be graduates had formed up before the ceremony. We continued on route 101 from here and then turned northeast onto 199, wending our way to the border of Oregon. This is a stunning road that follows the Smith River in CA and then the Illinois River in Oregon. Quintessential mountain and river beauty. Too bad we were driving at night in the rain! Even so, we could appreciate it's beauty. ...

... we were in. We were at a ramp that had no spit for a car to pull over, as well as no gas station right by it. All the cars that drove passed were locals, or people from the casino in the area. It was not an exit that travelers would pull off at and thus we were there for a good few hours with no luck. The sun was starting to set and willygoat decided to give up for the day.
