Until last night when Ian was reading some tourism literature I don't think any of us realised that they grow rice in Italy but today we have cycled through mile after mile of the stuff, interspersed with the odd patch of maize or other crop. It doesn't seem to be flooded like the paddies I have seen in Nepal but there is an extensive system of irrigation channels.
