... next adventure, a cog railway up to a glacier. One that used to be so big it was known as the La Mer de Glacé (Sea of ice). Unfortunately those days were long gone. There were markers along the walk down to the glacier that showed its size in years gone by. It has really shrunk in the last decade, which was quite saddening. We were interested to find out that the 27km circumference underground tunnel doesn't go under the mountains at all - just under the countryside near Geneva. Apparently it's 100m below the ground! actually it was probably some of the nicest hiking we have ever done - stayed in some lovely hotels and mountain refuges, ate amazing food each day, good wine each night!

... we are planning a vist there on saturday anyway be we had a brief but amazing view as we passed on the train. There was a 30 minute wait at Zurich so we made a quick dash to the supermarket for some bread rolls and juice - much the cheepest way to do things in Switzerland so we have been told - then onto the next train. This one was even faster - again first class section so VERY comfortable and very picturesque views of the lakes and alps.
