Only One Day in Paris!

... next day I was going to have a terrible time with them in the train station and getting onto the train. Oh well! I brought a lot more than the average holiday traveler as I hope to be in France for an extended period of time.

Traveler's reminder/tip: Even if you have to pay a fee or think the rate is bit off, it's better to exchange some of your money for Euros! Yeah, yeah: common sense, right?

Spring Break - a little belatedly

... monuments etc. and then we went to the Chinese Beer Garten for lunch again! After, the tour guide showed us where the river running through the gardens had had rapids artificially put into it so there were a whole group of surfers in the river! After that, we continued on our tour, saw some more important monuments and finished back where we started. We decided to climb up to the top of one of the bell towers of the one of the churches to get a full view of Munich...there were ...

Martin Wunder Apartment Rental

... but first we needed to sleep. On our second day in Paris I set out early on my own while Liz slept in a little longer. Our apartment was near the Tower, so I headed that way and then wandered around what appeared to be the fashion district - and I don't mean Yves St Laurent and Chanel, I mean textiles - fabrics, ribbons and yards and yards of it. I rand my hands through the racks of toile and remember back to a few years ago when my room was decorated in ...

Why Computers Can't Read Maps

... us driving past the Eiffel Tower though. Thankfully it wasn't the other major landmark of Paris we were driving by, as the roundabout at the Arc de Triumph is not something I ever want to experience in a hire car!! Rene was returned without further incident, and without any mention of the lovely flash photograph we had taken of us 4 weeks earlier in our previous hire car. Relieved to be done with the driving part of our trip, all 5500km of it, we retired to the pub next ...

Day 6 Paris

... I deserve it by now! I mean really, it's already raining, I need a break! My first stop seems a little further than what I thought, or maybe the taxi driver just took the long way, after all he has a tourist on board, why not milk it ! So about half way there, I remind him that Les Invalides is only 6 or 7 kilometres from the hotel, we should be getting there pretty soon. Wow, we arrive very shortly after that ! Hmmm. The charge is 16 euro's, probably should have been 12 or 13. So I ...

Another fall and we're rescaffolded

... and working right in front of our bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room windows. We were treated to the pounding on our arrival yesterday, and this morning, promptly at 8a.m., not only did the pounding recommence, but plaster fell from the skylight in our hallway when the window was removed, and when I walked into the bathroom, there was a man working on the window. I guess we won't be sleeping in this week! I'm doing my best to cover the windows to ...

"We'll always have Paris."

... of the Renaissance paintings and Napoleonic sculptures. As with other museums in Europe, there were a few budding artists, who amidst the throngs of tour groups and visitors, would be painstakingly recreating every brush stroke, glimmer of light and strand of hair of some of the masterworks. Some were truely talented, others less so. Although the most interesting ones I thought were back in Florence where art students took a masterwork and ...

... them run a spectral analysis to determine its components. It finally arrived and ... it wasn't the same!!! Noooooooo!!!! What happened??? Did they change the recipe??!!? How could they??!??!? I felt so dejected as I left the restaurant. I checked the menu posted outside - I had ordered the wrong penne!!!!! Why? Why??? WHY!?!??!??! I am such a fool! The feeling I had at that very moment was like the feeling you had when the twist in the "Sixth Sense" was ...

... sustenance. Everything is closed. Finally we arrive at La Grande Arche and find a small sidewalk café open for business. We select sandwiches from its limited menu, and they are excellent, and the rest after our morning's activities is highly appreciated. To one side of the café is a giant TV screen which tells the history of this district.
